administrations worldwide.
Job Summary: The Manager
Legal Services will primarily ensure that the company is adequately defended
and to provide legal support to all operational and business units of the
company.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • The jobholder will manage the litigation
    Portfolio of UPL and institute and defend legal suits for the company.
  • Prepare annual plans and budgets for the
    department and guide implementation of planned activities in line with
    UPL’s Business plans and policies.
  • Offer technical support to the team
    through capacity building, coaching and mentoring and effectively manage
    performance of the team.
  • Actively contribute to the income
    generating and sustainability initiative of UPL.
  • Work closely with external company lawyers
    and follow up progress on case handling, research, advice and provide
    opinions with regards to cases filed in courts of judicature.
  • Follow-up proceedings before Courts,
    Adjudicators, Mediators, Arbitrators and Tribunals and brief the Company
    Secretary on the progress.
  • Manage and contract database and other
    legal documentation ensuring that the contract database is up to date and
    provide technical input in contract making and propose adjustments as
    necessary.
  • Compile and report on the status of the
    contracts database.
  • Participate in negotiation of contracts
    and apply, register and defend company trademarks from any opposition.
  • Manage the Company’s asset database by
    maintaining the assets database for all land titles and vehicle log books
    and ensure that the asset database is up to date.
  • Offer technical advice to various
    operational units and Committees e.g. Contract Committee, Disciplinary
    Committee, etc. for effective decision making
  • Maintain the legal and policy framework of
    the company by compiling, draft, edit and review company rules,
    regulation, and policies.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant should hold an Honours
    Bachelors of Law Degree
  • Possession of a Post Graduate Diploma in
    Legal Practice
  • The applicant must be an enrolled advocate
    of the High Court
  • At least eight years of relevant working
    experience; five years at supervisory level.
