DFCU bank is a fast growing commercial bank offering a variety of
innovative products and services. DFCU Limited was started by the Commonwealth
Development Corporation (CDC) of the United Kingdom and the Government of
Uganda through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) under the name of
Development Finance Company of Uganda Limited. Later restructuring brought in
DEG (of Germany) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners
with CDC and UDC, each having a 25% stake in the company. Its objective was to
support long-term development projects whose financing needs and risk did not
appeal to the then existing financial commercial lending institutions.
Job Summary: The Regional
Collection Executive will be responsible for maintaining and monitoring the
quality of the Retail products under their regions and be the primary point of
contact to manage the collection and recoveries of the salary scheme loans in
order to maximise recoveries on Non- Performing Loans and monitor Watch
accounts showing signs of deteriorating trends in order to turn their
performance around and to ensure full compliance with internal and statutory
regulations and guidelines on asset quality to minimize losses to and maximise
revenue for the Bank.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • The
    incumbent will serve as the primary source of contact for all scheme
    related issues.
  • Solely
    dedicated to management of the performance of the scheme portfolio.
  • Build
    rapport with respective schemes and ensure timely closure of any issues on
    either end that may arise.
  • Keenly
    monitor attrition of the scheme portfolio, identify probable causes
    like pay-offs, completions and identify business opportunity.
  • Charged
    with managing deductions codes through Payroll Consults Africa to ensure
    the Banks civil servants are sufficiently coded through the
    government payroll handler.
  • Advice
    schedules to the respective schemes every beginning of the month.
    This enables timely follow ups for payments expected.
  • Follow-up
    payments and payment schedules before end of the month. This helps to manage
    build-up of the delinquent portfolio in the watch segment- a kind of
    proactive strategy.
  • Regularly
    monitor code drop-offs month on month and ensure that they are re-coded or
    have salary remitted to the Bank.
  • Track
    reason for drop-off like deceased cases, completion, transfers, retirement
    etc such that an appropriate follow-up is undertaken before
    accounts fall into delinquency.
  • Work
    closely with the Team Leader, Branch managers and Regional Managers and recommend
    accounts that require tougher action in order to comply with BOU
    regulations.
  • Enlist
    the support of the Team Leader or Head Special Assets Management to
    resolve more complicated loan matters and identify root causes of
    non-payment.
     
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The applicant for the DFCU Bank Regional
    Collection Executive job opportunity must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Commerce, Business
    Administration or equivalent.
  • Broad
    knowledge and understanding of credit
  • High
    level of customer service.
  • Very
    good telephone techniques
  • Excellent
    verbal and written communication skills. Good grammar is an added
    advantage.
  • Excellent
    negotiation skills
  • Tactful
    and calm
  • Highly
    assertive
  • Organized
  • Broad
    knowledge and understanding of the Bank’s Credit including SAM policies
    and procedures.
  • Computer
    literacy i.e. proficiency in the use of Word and Excel. PowerPoint is an
    added advantage.
