AVSI Foundation has entered into a new partnership with UNHCR and OPM
to implement Education and Protection interventions for South Sudanese refugees
in Palabek Settlement, Lamwo district.

Job Summary: The Education
Officers will be responsible for the design and delivery of timely and quality
Education services to South Sudan refugees in Palabek Settlement, Lamwo
district. The successful candidates will be based in Kitgum office but must be
willing to travel every day to the project site.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Establish primary and secondary schools
within the settlement in which both refugee and host community children
can access education. - The incumbent will also facilitate
enrolment of refugee children in host community schools; Support existing
government primary schools within 3km from the settlement with training,
mentorship and materials aimed at improving safety and education quality. - Support provision of inclusive education
packages for children with special needs
- Introduce and implement child friendly
school interventions in the schools. - Carry out trainings for teachers to
improve the quality of teaching and enhance the use of friendly pedagogic
models that will enhance learning. - Integrate all newly established schools
within the existing government structures including arranging for routine
monitoring from the district education office and other arrangements for
students to participate in the termly and other major national
examinations. - The incumbent will mobilize communities to
enroll children into school and encouraging regular attendance and
involvement of parents in following up the progress of their children in
school. - Set up school management committees that
enable parents’ involvement in the management of school programs. - Work closely with the AVSI HQ technical
support team in the development of reports, standards, protocols, manuals,
tools and dedicated reports related to the Education sector. - Work in liaison with the Program Manager
and other staff in reporting and documentation both for the internal
(quarterly reports) as well as external reporting obligations. - Network and link with other organizations
and projects (e.g. LWF, OXFAM, IRC, ACORD, CARITAS, Samaritans Purse) to
maximize impact of education activities. - Send weekly activity updates to the Senior
Education Officer.

Experience:

- The applicants for the AVSI Foundation Education
Officer jobs should hold Bachelor’s Degrees in Education - Possession of a Post Graduate Training in
project planning and management is essential. - A minimum of three years of professional
experience implementing education in emergencies. - People management / supervision skills
- High degree of flexibility
- Excellent communication and interpersonal
skills - Good presentation skills
- Ability to work under pressure with
minimal supervision. - Fluency in English and ability to speak
Arabic and other local languages spoken in South Sudan is desired.
