a Nation Media Group Company is Uganda’s most influential media house,
operating The Daily Monitor, Saturday Monitor and Sunday Monitor newspapers,
93.3KFM, 90.4 Dembe FM, Nation Couriers and the Monitor Business Directory.
Job Summary: The Multimedia
Editor will primarily create pictures/videos for the news and features sections
of The Monitor Publications print, broadcast and online platforms and the
company’s picture/video archives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Prepares
    desk diary for multimedia graphics assignments.
  • The
    jobholder also receives briefing from Managing Editor – Content generation
  • Checks
    working tools i.e. camera batteries and notebooks
  • Goes
    on assignments with other reporters and takes newsworthy and creative
    photographs and videos.
  • Processes/reviews
    photos and videos for publication in print and uploading online
  • Writes
    captions for the selected pictures within set deadlines, is responsible
    for the accuracy and content of captions.
  • The
    incumbent edits videos into format that can be used on our online
    platforms
  • Provides
    advance photographs/videos at editors’ requests
  • Creates
    advance portraits of individuals and photographs on various issues for the
    department’s archives based on editors’ requests.
  • Downloads
    all the day’s pictures/videos for transmission to the Design and
    Online editors
  • Protects
    pictures/videos from leakage.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The applicants for the MPL Multimedia
    Editor career placement should hold a University Degree in Industrial Fine Art or related field from an
    accredited institution
  • A
    minimum of three to five years of related experience in the media industry
  • Extensive knowledge of the programs for photography and demonstrable
    experience of practicing them within the bounds of corporate identity
  • A
    creative thinker with good problem-solving skills
  • Ability
    to multitask
  • Enthusiasm
    for photography and well informed of current trends and issues
  • Ability
    to lead the creative process
  • Ability
    to articulate creative ideas, both verbally, visually and in writing
  • Creative
    approach to briefs, while working within corporate guidelines if appropriate
  • Excellent
    eye for detail and accuracy
  • Ability
    to track, review and manage team performance effectively
  • Deadline-oriented
    with strong drive for results
