Publishing Company Limited (NVPPCL), started business in March 1986. It is a
multimedia business housing newspaper, magazines, internet publishing,
television, radio broadcasting, commercial printing, advertising and
distribution services. NVPPCL is listed on the Uganda Stock Exchange, with an
expected turnover of over UGX 60 billion (FY 2010/2011).
Job Summary: The Assistant
Accountant will handle all finance related tasks at the bureau with a high
degree of integrity
Key Duties and
  • The jobholder will receive and receipt
    cash and cheques/ drafts from clients to recognize revenue, reduce
    indebtedness by clients and account for all collections.
  • Pay out petty cash/imprest for vouchers
    that are authorized by Station Manager/ News Editor in order to facilitate
    staff at the bureau to do their work and buy office material.
  • The incumbent will also issue orders for
    walk in clients in the absence of sales executives; receipt the payments
    and type out the advert.
  • Issue tax invoices to clients who bring in
    business e.g. announcements, adverts, talk shows in order to facilitate
    timely payments by the clients.
  • The jobholder will also collect payments
    from the field from clients to aide in debt collection.
  • Make calls and remind clients of payments
    in order to ensure that the clients pay up for the announcements made.
  • Keenly monitor asset movement in the
    bureau in order to keep track of office assets and keep record of the
    operational status or condition of the assets
  • Receive announcements, receipt them,
    follow up to ensure that they are aired and file them once they expire
    (Radio Ads) in order to track revenue for the company and for further
Qualifications, Skills and
  • The Assistant Accountant must hold a
    diploma in Business Studies from a recognized University.
  • At least two years’ work experience in a
    busy environment.
  • Computer literacy skills with proficiency
    in Ms. Word, Excel and any accounting package.
  • Highly analytical skills.
  • Ability to multi task and deliver in a
    tight deadline driven environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication
  • High sense of integrity.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Organized and timely.
  • Fluency in English and Lugbara.
