Job Summary: The Senior
Officer, Education oversees the implementation of the Project in Yumbe and is
responsible for achieving program goals and objectives and for reporting on
program implementation and outcomes. The incumbent is also responsible for
working with the partner and providing technical support to the partner staff.
He/ she is responsible for monitoring project interventions and following up
implementation of the accountability framework. In addition, the job holder is
responsible for managing Education interventions and ensuring sustainability
and functionality of all the structures. This position calls for a lot of
flexibility and requires the person to work extra-long hours including weekends
as activities may determine from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Save the
    Children Senior Officer, Education job placement should hold a Bachelor’s
    Degree in Education.
  • A minimum of three years of progressive
    experience in programme development and management with INGO. Relevant
    experience supervising community based social development projects and
    with international NGOs particularly those addressing children’s rights
    and those applying partnership approach is desirable.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of child
    rights issues, national poverty alleviation strategies as well as current
    national and international trends into global poverty and development.
  • Strong financial, planning and budget
    management skills and experience.
  • Experience of working with local partners
    and District Local Government in Health, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child
    Protection program delivery
  • Ability to speak local language and
    directly interact with target group will be an added advantage
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic
    planning abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain
    conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a
    team.
  • Willingness to travel and work in
    hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
  • Computer literacy and excellent
    documentation skills are a must.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra
    hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and
    ability to work well in an international environment with people from
    diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to intervene with crisis
    management or troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and
    communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Excellent time management and planning
    capacity
  • Commitment to Save the Children values.
  • Ability to speak the local language.
