About UNRA:
The
Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of Parliament;
The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on
1st July 2008.  The mandate of UNRA is to
develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general
roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.

Job Summary: The Materials Engineer will be responsible for quality
assurance of soils and 
materials
testing; reviewing tests results and proposing necessary amendments to the
design and construction materials.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Carry out independent soils and materials
    investigations in line with departmental standards and guidelines;
  • Conduct regular reviews of contractors and
    consultants’ quality assurance procedures and methodologies in line with
    departmental standards;
  • Conduct inspection and independent compliance
    checks on designs in line with departmental standards;
  • Respond to audit reports in line with
    departmental guidelines and standards;
  • Develop a risk matrix and put in place risk
    mitigation measures in the materials quality management;
  • Actively participate in Planning, budgeting
    and reporting in line with departmental guidelines and targets.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Senior
    Materials Engineer

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant for the UNRA Materials Engineer
    career vacancy should hold an Honors Degree in Civil Engineering,
    Engineering Geology, Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering or any other
    related field;
  • Possession of Post Graduate qualifications in
    a related field is an added advantage;
  • Professional registration with the ERB or
    relevant Association of professional engineers in the commonwealth
    countries is an added advantage;
  • Three years’ experience in Soils and
    Materials investigations and tests.
  • Computer literacy skills
  • High degree of integrity;
  • Excellent track record of outstanding
    performance;
  • Excellent interpersonal, particularly
    staff/management relation skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication
    skills
