a Cow (SAC) was founded in the UK in 1988 to help transform lives, by helping
African families and orphans to grow enough food to eat, sell their produce and
develop small businesses that last. They have provided livestock, seeds,
training and ongoing support, to help over a million lives and their families
that live in abject poverty. The Send a Cow Group currently constitutes Country
Programmes in seven African countries plus the UK and USA, together with a
Group Executive which is based in the UK.
Job Summary: The Finance Assistant will support the finance
function in the organisation and specifically to initiate and make payments and
enter financial data into the accounting system.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Payments Handling:
    • Raising payment vouchers and writing
      cheques  in response to various
      types of requests including invoices and requisitions from Groups and
      Project staff
    • Make timely payments to the staff,
      suppliers and different stake holders
  • Data entry:
    • Posting all transactions to main
      accounting system
    • Update entries in accounting system
      upon receipt of documentation to support initial cash advances
    • In charge of recording transactions
      in cashbooks
    • Ensure filing and safety of all  financial records
  • Audit: Facilitation of internal and external
    auditing
  • Bank Reconciliation: render support in the preparation of
    monthly bank reconciliation
  • Petty Cash: Maintain Petty cash and ensure
    timely replenishment
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a higher
    diploma in accounting or a degree with a major in accounting.
  • Applicant with full or partial professional
    qualification in ACCA, CPA have an added advantage
  • At least two years of post-qualification
    experience
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted
    accounting principles and internal control procedures is desired
  • Computer skills and knowledge in Microsoft
    Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Pastel or other accounting packages.
  • Prior NGO experience is desired
