Hospital was founded in 1897 in Kampala, and is the oldest hospital in Uganda.
It currently serves as an urban community hospital that provides modern medical
care. Mengo Hospital provides comprehensive care including radiology,
obstetrics, dentistry, orthopedics, and surgery. Additionally, Mengo Hospital
provides critical training and education to health professional through its
various programs in midwifery and nursing, health sciences, and laboratory
technology. Mengo Hospital also has a dedicated research and development team
that works to find new solutions to health issues in Uganda.

Summary: The Research Coordinator will steer the
team at Mengo Hospital in all its operational research activities aimed at
quality assurance and informing policy changes. Specific research questions
could focus on maternal and child health, non-communicable diseases, cancer, or
other pressing health issues. The fellow will coordinate research activities
including data analysis, documentation, and implementation of research
programs, and will share findings with the management and quality assurance
teams to improve service delivery. The fellow will also be responsible for designing,
monitoring, and updating a research database.

- Develop a hospital
operational research strategy and plan; organize and coordinate all
research programs/activities in the hospital - Develop and manage an annual
research budget and work plan - Identify key potential areas
for operational research - Build the capacity of health
professionals in operational research through training, mentorship and
support supervision - Offer feedback from research
activities to health professionals to improve service delivery - Develop research proposals in
identified areas and seek funding for the same - Intuitively review
departmental processes and reports to improve the research process - Analyze data and draft
reports
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience:
Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the
fellowship should have a clinical background (MBCHB, BScN or RN) with
additional training in quality improvement/management in health care setting,
health services management or public health - Background in statistics or
other data gathering methods - Broad experience and/or understanding
of patient care processes, quality/process improvement or total quality
management (a minimum of three years’ experience) - Possess the ability to assume
responsibility with limited supervision, exercise initiative and judgment
and make decisions within the scope of assigned responsibility - Past data analysis and report
writing experience - Possess the ability to be
self-motivated and take initiative - Strong research background,
including data analysis and reporting writing skills

Terms and Conditions: Fellows will be provided with housing, health insurance and
a living stipend of $550/month. Additionally, fellows will receive an award of
$1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year. Flights to and from
the placement site and all other costs associated with GHC programming are
included, including $600 in professional development funds. Housing will be
arranged in Mengo, Kampala.
