About MRC:
The Medical
Research Council/ Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI) based at the
Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe is a bilateral multi-disciplinary
research organization funded by, the Medical Research Council (UK) and Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Uganda under the U.S. President’s
Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and other donor agencies. Established
in 1988, the MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS is an internationally
recognized center of excellence for research on HIV infection and related
diseases, contributing knowledge on the revolving epidemic, the evaluation of
innovative health care options, treatment and prevention, and the development
of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide.
About ZETRA Study:
MRC is
implementing the ZETRA study; A cognitive behavioural and structural HIV
prevention intervention for young Ugandan women engaging in high risk sexual
behaviour in which a randomized controlled trial (RCT) will be conducted to
test the effectiveness of a combination structural and cognitive-behavioural
prevention intervention for HIV-uninfected women aged 15 to 24 years who engage
in high risk sexual activity in community venues in Kampala. The intervention
will focus on repeat HIV testing and counselling every 6 months, and increasing
and sustaining sexual risk reduction behaviours to reduce STIs, HIV, and
unplanned pregnancy.
Job Summary:  The Scientist (Study Co-ordinator) will take
charge of the implementation of the study as per the protocol and ensure
quality data is collected, as well as liaise with the funders on all issues
relating to the study.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
·        
Manage and coordinate the day-to-day activities of
running the study and ensure collection of quality data.
·        
The incumbent will coordinate/ supervise the
different staff involved in the study and ensure that all the staff are
correctly carrying out their duties as relates to the study specific
procedures.
·        
Ensure that the study procedures are done according
to the study protocol and regulatory requirements.
·        
Quickly respond to study problems and queries from
other study staff including; Doctors, Laboratory Technicians, Nurses,
Counsellors, Health Visitors, and Data Entry Clerks.
·        
Keenly track all enrolled study participants to
ensure timely follow-up visits.
·        
Regularly verify and ensure correct completion of
study forms, and collection of laboratory samples.
·        
In charge of the development and generation of study
documents like source documents, study specific standard operating procedures,
consent forms.
·        
Take part in screening and enrolment of study
participants
·        
Coordinate study specific staff training.
·        
Participate in the preparation of correspondences
with IRB and other regulatory bodies
·        
Regularly review study forms, data entry, and
laboratory results summary.
·        
Prepare and submit progress reports as may be
required.
·        
Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the
Head of Programme, Social Sciences.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
·        
The ideal candidate should hold a Master’s in Public
Health or equivalent from a recognised institution.
·        
At least two years’ experience in study coordination
work is required; experience working in a similar research environment is an
added advantage.
·        
Excellent computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft
Office (e.g. Word, Excel); database management skills.
·        
Organized with excellent attention to detail
·        
Excellent management skills
·        
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
·        
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
·        
Ability to work under pressure and to tight
deadlines.
