The
Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) is a national Faith-Based
Non-Government Organization comprising of the Roman Catholic Church, the Church
of Uganda, the Uganda Orthodox Church, the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, the
Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Pentecostal and Evangelical Churches. IRCU’s
Vision is: ‘a divinely peaceful, united, prosperous Uganda where all people
enjoy full health and freedoms for the common good.’ The Council implements a
range of programs namely HIV/AIDS and Public Health, Gender Based Violence
Prevention, Peace, Justice and Governance.
Job Summary:  The Communication & Public Relations
Specialist will support the IRCU in the development, implementation and
identification of strategies in communication and Public Relations for the promotion
of a positive organizational image.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
·        
Develop, maintain and implement communication &
Public Relations systems within and outside IRCU in line with the organization
policies and procedures
·        
Manage the maintenance and provision of access to
IRCU Resource Centre in line with the communications policies and procedures
·        
The incumbent will document and disseminate
information useful to the organization in line with the IRCU’s Communication
& Public Relations Strategy
·        
The incumbent will also develop public information
and educational materials on IRCU programmes and other development issues in
line with the IRCU Strategy
·        
Update and maintain the IRCU website in line with
the IRCU communication requirements
·        
Edit quarterly and annual reports for IRCU in line
with communication guidelines/policy
·        
The incumbent will build strong public relation
linkages for the organization in line with instructions from the Secretary
General
·        
Guide, coordinate and supervise documentation of experiences
within IRCU in line with the strategy and IRCU communication guidelines/policy
·        
Actively participate in implementation of various
Organizational Development programmes in line with IRCU strategies
·        
Quickly respond to inquiries from the media and
ensure positive/ active media coverage/publicity
·        
Create positive internal and community relations
through effective and timely .communications and publication dissemination.
·        
Steer the preparation of marketing campaigns, public
relations programs, special events, fund raising efforts and arrange press
conferences whenever required.
·        
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Secretary
General.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
·        
The Communication & Public Relations Specialist should
hold a Masters’ degree in communications and public relations or Information
Science with experience in public relations.
·        
Possession of Post graduate qualifications in
Graphic and web design.
·        
Accreditation to any communication & public
relations bodies shall be considered key.
·        
At least five years’ experience in Communication and
public relations in a service delivery organization.           
·        
Significant experience in social marketing with
evidence/recorded experience
·        
Substantive knowledge of current practices of
communication and ICT.
·        
Excellent organizational and management skills and
the ability to work as a team and respond to deadlines.
·        
Good research, critical thinking and analytical
skills.
·        
Persuasiveness and negotiation skills
·        
Excellent reporting /writing skills
·        
Complex problem solving, decision making and
positive Judgment
·        
Social Perceptiveness,
·        
Systems Evaluation
·        
Good perception and analytical skills
