About USAID CHC Project:
Communication for Healthy
Communities (CHC) is a five- year program implemented through a cooperative agreement
between the United States Agency for International Development USAID/Uganda)
and FHI 360. The program supports the Government of Uganda (GOU) and US
government (USG) implementing partners to design and implement quality health
communication interventions to contribute to reduction in HIV infections, total
fertility, maternal and child mortality, malnutrition, malaria &
tuberculosis.
Job Summary: The USAID Project Knowledge Manager will be
tasked with the streamlining of communications efforts within the CHC program,
developing and strategically disseminating program materials and documents to
staff and stakeholders. The Knowledge Manager (KM) will work with the CHC
Senior Advisor-Monitoring, Evaluation and Research to set clear KM vision and
priority activities, execute KM work plans and lead the production and
dissemination of publications and promotional 
materials to staff and stakeholders. The position also oversees
compliance with project, donor, and FHI360 communication and branding guidelines.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Works
    closely with the senior program staff in the design and implementation of
    the project’s knowledge management activities, including the synthesis of
    program learnings and innovations; quality assurance and maintenance of a
    tracking system for publications, presentations, and social media.
  • Technically
    supports a robust “collaboration, learning and adaptation” agenda for the
    program
  • Oversees
    the dissemination of information on successful and promising approaches,
    lessons learned and other program results to national and regional-level
    stakeholders. Promotes forums which facilitate collaboration, learning and
    action as a result of this information among these actors.
  • Ensures
    that data/output from the project is organized and converted into
    appropriate formats (technical briefs, PPT presentations, summary
    matrices, e.t.c) and disseminate and promote its use among stakeholders
    for learning, policy development, and programming.
  • Builds
    the capacity of staff, implementing partners, government counterparts, and
    other stakeholders in knowledge management and learning methods.
  • Ensures
    all knowledge generated under the project include a gender and social
    norms focus that promotes appropriate targeting of these crosscutting
    factors in program development, implementation, and appraisal.
  • Generate
    ideas for KM products
  • Actively
    monitors and maintains relevant protocols, instruments, databases,
    manuals, training materials and reports pertaining to knowledge
    management.
  • Contributes
    to work plans, quarterly and annual reports, financial reports, and other
    reports and papers summarizing project results and evidence.
  • Delivers
    presentations at professional meetings and       
    conferences.
  • Perform
    any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate for the USAID FHI360 Knowledge Manager vacancy should
    possess a Master’s Degree or higher in Communication, International
    Relations, Monitoring and Evaluation, Public Health, Social Science, or a
    related field (required).
  • At
    least seven to nine years’ experience in program implementation and  monitoring environment, preferably with
    respect to knowledge management and stakeholder communication (essential).
  • Excellent
    analytical skills and ability to write and communicate technical
    information clearly and effectively to both technical and non- technical
    audiences (required).
  • Ability
    for innovativeness and self-management, to work independently and manage a
    high volume work flow.
  • Computer
    literacy skills i.e. proficient using MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and
    Access for data management (highly desirable).
  • Past
    experience working with social media tools Such as Twitter, Face Book,
    Google+, Vimeo, YouTube
  • Familiarity
    with on-line collaboration tools (e.g. GoToWebinar,  Skype, Adobe Connect etc.)
  • Past
    experience using Adobe Suite, Acrobat professional and 508 compliance
    requirements
  • Familiarity
    with website design and design software such as In-design and Adobe
    Photoshop
  • Ability
    to travel locally up to 40% required.
