About USAID CHC Project:
Communication for Healthy
Communities (CHC) is a five- year program implemented through a cooperative
agreement between the United States Agency for International Development
USAID/Uganda) and FHI 360. The program supports the Government of Uganda (GOU)
and US government (USG) implementing partners to design and implement quality
health communication interventions to contribute to reduction in HIV
infections, total fertility, maternal and child mortality, malnutrition,
malaria & tuberculosis.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Carries
    out research development with senior staff to develop, implement, manage,
    and conduct research studies to support the program.
  • The
    incumbent makes detailed evaluative assessments and observations, analyzes
    data and interprets results using qualitative/ quantitative methods and statistics.
  • In
    charge of determining the feasibility of developing new research based on
    program rollout to generate knowledge for project advancement.
  • Conducts
    literature/data reviews and reporting research data for program review and
    quality.
  • Ensures
    that project activities are implemented successfully and according to
    timelines.
  • Generates
    and disseminates highlights of research in appropriate formats to staff
    and stakeholders.
  • Prepares
    research concepts, proposals, reports, technical briefs, and manuscripts
    following established policies and procedures.
  • Ensures
    compliance with institutional and government regulations when writing and
    reviewing protocols, analysis plans, reports, technical briefs, and
    manuscripts.
  • Actively
    coordinates local IRB submissions for research proposals
  • Supports
    the design and implementation of research studies, including the sampling,
    recruitment, training, field oversight (budget, logistics, support
    supervision), and data management.
  • Develops
    training materials and conducts training for study implementation based on
    institutional policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Offer
    contextual and technical input in questionnaire development, data
    analysis, study design, and materials management.
  • Plans,
    organizes, and manages resources/processes (plus consultants) for
    successful completion of study goals.
  • Perform
    any other duties as may be assigned by the
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate for the USAID FHI360 Research Manager vacancy should
    possess a Masters’ Degree (or its equivalent with research experience) –
    Education, Health, Behavioral, Social Sciences, or related field.
  • At
    least seven to nine years of research or evaluation experience with
    international development programs.
  • Computer
    proficiency in Microsoft Office, Spreadsheet/analysis software,
    Qualitative software, and other technology required.
  • Articulate,
    professional and ability to communicate with confidence to stakeholders
    and staff.
  • Ability
    to read, write and speak fluent English and at least one local language.
  • Ability
    to work independently with initiative to manage high volume workflow
    essential.
  • Must
    be able to travel locally up to 40%
