The Ministry
of Energy & Mineral Development has a mandate to establish, promote the
development, manage and safeguard the rational and sustainable exploitation and
utilization of energy and mineral resources for social and economic
development. They would like to recruit for the Karuma and Isimba Hydro Power
The Senior Geologist will be in charge of inspecting all tunnel
construction and monitoring the tunnelling site activities and will spend most
of the time at the site. The role requires an active relationship with the
Contractor, Consultant, UEGCL and UETCL to ensure the sequencing and quality of
work that meets the design requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities: 
Actively monitor the excavation and .lining of the
Tunnels and Caverns using reinforced concrete and steel.
In charge of monitoring all tunnelling activities
to assure correct tunnelling sequence including; primary lining support,
additional support, waterproofing and secondary lining sprayed and in-situ
concrete; as specified in the contract documents, Contractor’s work plans and
bfest practice.
Monitoring  the contractor’s compliance with their ITPs,
participate in witness tests and review points, inspection of equipment and
materials; seeking support as required.
Identify and guide on any unsafe or incorrect
practices and escalate issues where required.
Support the Project Manager in preparation of
scheduled and ad hoc project reports.
Report in writing on delays, observed quality
deficiencies of the works, materials and/or quality issues relating to
construction operations.
Review and comment on all documents prepared by
the contractor including Method Statements, as built information and Operation
and Maintenance Manuals.
Skills and Experience: 
The Senior Geologist should hold a Bachelor’s
degree in engineering (Tunnelling, Geotechnical or other related field) from a
recognised university.
At least seven years’ experience in engineering
and construction on hydro power plants or major related infrastructure
Detailed knowledge and experience of site-based
Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) processes and procedures/regulations.
Past tunnelling experience and ability to demonstrate
knowledge of Sprayed Concrete Lining and Steel Lining methods and processes
will be a key advantage.
Computer literacy skills
Possess the ability to use engineering geological
software would be an advantage.
Membership to a professional body will be an added
