About USAID CHC Project:
Communication for Healthy
Communities (CHC) is a five- year program implemented through a cooperative
agreement between the United States Agency for International Development
USAID/Uganda) and FHI 360. The program supports the Government of Uganda (GOU)
and US government (USG) implementing partners to design and implement quality
health communication interventions to contribute to reduction in HIV
infections, total fertility, maternal and child mortality, malnutrition,
malaria & tuberculosis.
Job Summary: The USAID Project Family Planning (FP)
Communication Officer will work on a targeted communication campaign addressing
teenage pregnancy among adolescent  girls
(15-19) and young women (20-24). The campaign seeks to empower adolescent and
young women with the right information on teenage pregnancy and sexual
reproductive health and motivate them to see and utilize available services. It
will be implemented in selected districts of the Busoga region with high rates
of teenage pregnancy and low access to contraceptive information and services.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Technically
    support the FP Coordinator to design, implement, monitor and evaluate the
    FP communication campaign targeting adolescent girls (15-19) and young
    women (20-24)
  • Actively
    support the process of planning and implementing inter personal
    communication (IPC) activities which include enlisting and orienting youth
    friendly campaign champions as well as planning and implementing targeted
    community shows that link demand and supply for contraceptive information
    and services.
  • Work
    closely with service provider partners to conduct other youth friendly
    community based demand generation activities, including but not limited
    to; flash mobs, street bashes, market-day activations and school bashes,
    among others.
  • Carry
    out on-going monitoring and documentation of campaign activities and share
    lessons with the CHC senior team.
  • Co-facilitate
    participatory materials development and testing sessions with adolescent
    girls and young women and ensure that interventions address the unique
    needs of target audiences.
  • Develop
    activity reports and participate in developing quarterly reports
  • Steer
    the process of disseminating campaign materials to key partners, health
    centers and other youth corners in the districts.
  • Perform
    any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate for the USAID FHI360 Family Planning (FP) Communication
    Officer vacancy should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communication
  • At
    least three to five years’ experience in health communication.
  • Past
    experience in FP communication and community mobilization activities
  • Significant
    experience working with different partners, service providers, districts
    and community based organizations
  • Passion
    for adolescent and young women’s sexual reproductive health issues
  • Possess
    the ability to adapt and work in challenging and demanding environments
  • Ability
    to work independently and manage a high volume work flow
