The UN World Food Programme
(WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency against world hunger. WFP is the
largest and longest serving humanitarian agency in Uganda. Currently, WFP
focuses on three priority areas namely: Emergency Humanitarian Action (EHA);
Food & Nutrition Security (FNS); and Agriculture & Market Support
(AMS). WFP has operations in various parts of the Country.
Job Summary: The WFP
Senior Programme Assistant will work closely with the Coordinator – Emergency
Preparedness and Response and Refugees (EPRR) to facilitate and support
implementation of emergency programmes
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Technically
    support Emergency Preparedness and Response and Refugees (EPRR) programme
    implementation and monitoring;
  • Render
    support to emergency preparedness and planning at all levels within WFP
    and capacity building of government in developing early warning and
    emergency preparedness systems;
  • Work
    closely with concerned parties, complete the emergency and response
    checklists and consolidate an Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan for
    the Country Office;
  • Conduct
    monitoring of Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan activities and
    submit monthly and annual reports;
  • Actively
    support all other activities in the EPRR unit including to facilitate and
    support partnership processes;
  • Update
    and maintain records on programme activities, from formulation stage
    through completion, make information available for country briefs, country
    profiles, and other related purposes and ensure project cycle deadlines
    are met;
  • Send
    periodic timely and accurate monthly reports on implementation of general
    food and cash distributions, supplementary feeding and livelihood
    activities in the refugee programme;
  • Monitor,
    update and track data related to project issues, commodity pipelines and
    financial allotment status reports, informing the relevant divisions
    accordingly; ensure accuracy of data related to the above;
  • In
    charge of all administrative duties such as coordinating the process of
    organizing workshops and meeting for sub-unit, coordinating missions to
    the Country Office and sub-offices;
  • Perform
    other related duties as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Senior
    Programme Assistant should hold a University degree in either of the
    following disciplines: Economics, Agriculture, International Affairs,
    Business Administration, Social Sciences, Development Studies or afield
    relevant to international development assistance;
  • A
    minimum of five years of relevant work experience gained from a reputable
    institution;
  • The
    applicants should have sound judgment;
  • Possess
    the ability to extract, interpret, analyze, format data and resolve,
    operational problems; work with minimum supervision;
  • Supervise
    and train support staff and work effectively with people of different
    national and cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent
    knowledge and skills in using MS Office applications;
  • Excellent
    command of both written & oral English is essential;
