Global Food Justice (VSF – GFJ)
– Global Food Justice (VSF – GFJ) is a non-governmental development
organization, founded in 1987 that carries out activities in support of
farmers’ organizations as well as attempts to publicize the problems of the
peasantry in the world and the proposals for a change in global agricultural
model. Through all its actions VSF – GFJ mainstreams the struggle for Food
Sovereignty, a paradigm shift in economic, political and social order to
achieve a just and equitable relations between all peoples and respect the
environment. In Spain it is composed by a professional team spread between its
headquarters in Barcelona and sixteen regional delegations. In Africa the work
is articulated through Africa Regional Coordination including Uganda and R.D
Congo. In Latin America through the Regional Coordination in Bolivia, Central
America (gathering Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador) and Caribbean (grouping
Dominican Republic, Cuba and Haiti)
present in Uganda since 1994, particularly in the Teso region, and with its
work aims to:
- Contribute
to the endogenous agricultural development of rural communities through
increased access to resources and promoting local production models. - Strengthening
rural community organizations,VSF – GFJ counterparts and other local
stakeholders. - Raising
awareness on the structural causes that undermine the right to foodin
rural communities andpromote changes to local and regional level based on
the achievement of the development model of food sovereignty - Based
in Soroti and under the responsibility of the Africa Regional Coordinator,
the selected person will be responsible for supporting the implementation
of the Development Programme in Teso Region that VSF – GFJ is carrying out
jointly with its local Development Partners.
- Performing
technical and financial assessment, reporting and evaluation of the
activities executed by the RC. - Actively
collaborating in the formulation of the programmes in coordination with
the partners depending on the established programmatic context. - Guiding
and assessing the process for the training of the associated
organisations. - Participate
in the implementation of the budgets of the programmes and projects in
coordination with the partners. - Actively
participate in audits and evaluations. - Effect
the payment of bills, registering the accounts of financial operations and
classifying their justification. - Taking
part in the budgetary assessment of VSF’s activities and in the
preparation of the Coordination’s financial reports. - Revising
the expense justifying financial reports of VSF’s associated organisations. - Regulating
payments to staff and third parties.
- The
candidates for the aforementioned NGO Projects Officer vacancy should hold
a University degree, preferably in the social rural domains, agriculture
or veterinary. - Familiarity
with, and personal motivation for, the Food Sovereignty sector. - Past
exposure and experience in the formulation, assessment and justification
of joint-financing. - Familiarity
with the gender-based approach and its practical application. - Past
experience in rural development projects. - Prior
experience in projects for the guidance and reinforcement of farmers’
organisations for agricultural and livestock producers. - Significant
experience in carrying out diagnoses and evaluations with participative
methodologies. - Past
exposure and experience in designing and presenting training courses,
drafting training guides and using popular education techniques. - Computer
literacy i.e. Proficient use of Excel, Word and electronic mail
management. - A
motorbike driving license is compulsory. - Fluency
in English and Ateso (written and spoken). Kumam, Kiswahili, French and
Spanish will be an added advantage. - Possess
the ability to integrate in multicultural teams. - Ability
to work in a team and alone - Ability
to effectively communicate. - Being
motivated to work with, and learn from, rural communities. - Availability
to travel in the region by motorcycle and alone.
