The
Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Energy & Mineral Development
(MEMD) requires the services of qualified and experienced persons for the posts
indicated below to work at the Petroleum Exploration & Production
Department (PEPD), Entebbe.
Job Summary: The Petroleum
Engineer will work with a team of drilling, reservoir and production engineers,
geologists, engineering technicians, and field operations personnel to better
understand reservoirs and maximize hydrocarbon recovery at minimum cost while
maintaining a strong emphasis on reducing environmental impact.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate drilling/geological programs and
    participate in well drilling and completion operations.
  • Participate in monitoring of oil companies
    activities.
  • Participate in well testing operations and
    interpretation of well testing data.
  • Advise on field development plans presented by
    oil companies and participate in field development planning.
  • Advise on secondary and tertiary recovery
    methods.
  • Analysis of reservoir engineering data and its
    incorporation into 3D reservoir simulation models of petroleum fields.
  • Work with a team of Geophysicists, Geologists,
    and other Reservoir Engineers with the objective of providing 3D models
    for use in the reservoir management of fields.
  • Conduct history matching of reservoir
    simulation models using computer softwares.
  • Define and evaluate development wells:
    Location, design, incremental production profile.
  • Follow-up on wells realization and
    interpretation of acquired data.
  • Participate in reservoir performance analysis,
    and log analysis.
  • Evaluate the reservoir risks and uncertainties
    associated with development wells and production facilities aimed at
    increasing field recovery (e.g. compression, injection facilities).
  • Provide input for annual reserves forecasts for
    fields.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the
    supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills
& Experience:
  • The candidate should possess a Bachelor of
    Science degree (Upper Second) in Mining, Mechanical, Petroleum or Chemical
    Engineering.
  • Additional post graduate training in a related
    field will be an added advantage.
  • Strong written, verbal communication skills and
    organizational skills.
  • Ability to work long hours in Entebbe to meet
    the set deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and
    able to work with a multiplicity of stakeholders.
  • The applicant should also be highly innovative
    and creative thinker.
  • Possess excellent computer, writing, and
    presentation skills.
  • High degree of integrity, self-driven and able
    to set own work schedule with rigorous deadlines.
  • Ability to initiate and complete assignments
    and to work under demanding circumstances with minimal supervision.
