Job Summary: The Database Administrator will oversee  the performance, integrity and security of a database in line with the established corporate standards and policies
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Offer technical support on the corporate database availability
  • The DBA will establish database user needs and monitor database user access and security;
  • The job holder will monitor database performance and manage parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users;
  • The DBA will install and test new versions of the Database Management Systems on the URA systems.
  • Maintain corporate data standards, including adherence to the established corporate data standards manual
  • Document database changes, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata);
  • Control access permissions and privileges;
  • Develop, manage and test the backup and recovery plans
  • Ensure that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly;
  • Participate in the design and execution of the corporate database capacity planning;
  • Work closely with other IT stakeholders in resolving incidents affecting corporate services availability.
  • Communicate regularly with other IT stakeholders and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security;
  • Commission and install new applications and customizing existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of the service availability and continuity strategies
  • Evaluate and recommend new database technologies
  • Perform any other IT tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The DBA must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, software engineering, Statistics (computer option)
  • Additional professional Certifications that are relevant to Database administrators such as Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), Oracle Certified Database Administrator (OCA) equivalent will be an added advantage
  • The candidate should possess a year’s experience in a database administration role in a dynamic organization with more than a hundred employees
  • Experience in database management systems preferably Oracle and SQL, design, performance tuning, database security, database backup and recovery
