Job Title: Study Nurse
Reports to: Project Leader.
Duty Station: Masaka, Uganda

About MRC/UVRI:
The Medical Research Council/Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI) Uganda Research Unit on IDS is seeking keen, experienced and suitably qualified Ugandans to join a team of dedicated clinical and research staff working on a trial of Adjunctive Dexamethasone in HIV infected Adults with Cryptococcal Meningitis.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
·         Carry out medical procedures related to the clinical trial.
·         Provide in-patient and out-patients medical care to study patients.
·         Provide detailed study information to patients or their acceptable representatives and obtain informed consent from them.
·         Completion and maintenance of screening and enrollment logs.
·         Participate in data collection through administration of study questionnaires.
·         Perform phlebotomy, collection and handling of laboratory samples in the hospital wards and ensure their safe and timely transportation to MRC Laboratories.
·         Perform simple rapid screening tests in the wards and track laboratory results to ensure timely feedback to clinicians and patients.
·         Dispense prescribed study drugs and other treatment according to study protocol guidelines.
·         Report adverse events to study clinicians/Coordinator, store patient folders and resolution of data queries.
·         Review and update clinic supplies and make requisitions appropriately.
·         Track participants by phone or through field workers to ensure attendance of study visits.
·         Offer appropriate health education and counselling to patients and their attendants.
·         Prepare regular clinic/ward reports and suggest improvement in clinic management. 

Qualifications Skills and Experience:
·         Diploma in Nursing or comprehensive Nursing.
·         Registration with Uganda Nurses and Midwifery Council.
·         A minimum of 4 years working hospital experience including care for in-patients and the critically ill.
·         Certificate in HIV/AIDS counseling and testing and ICP/ GCP training is added advantage.
·         Fluency in English and Luganda.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
·         A Bachelors Degree in any of the following: Agri-business, Agricultural economics or general Agriculture.
·         At least three (3) years experience in NGO sector or related field in a similar position.
·         Sound computer knowledge in Word and Excel Spreadsheet.
·         Capacity to travel extensively within the country and ability to drive long distances is a must.

Job Summary: The incumbent serves as Deputy Director of Programs for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Uganda office. The position contains a broad mix of functions including managerial, supervisory, scientific, technical and administrative.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties of the incumbent are to provide scientific and programmatic leadership for activities related to the implementation of CDC’s HIV/AIDS/TB/STI activities in Uganda, as part of senior management. Responsibilities include;

Qualifications & Experience:
NOTE:  All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
Education required: Completion of a bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery and a master of science degree in public health or health policy are required.
Work Experience required:  Seven years of progressively responsible public health experience in public health service-delivery projects within an HIV/AIDS intervention framework is required; an additional two years of managerial and supervisory responsibility with multiple staffing reporting is required.
Language required:  Level IV English ability (fluent written, spoken and reading).
Knowledge required:  Must possess knowledge of the theories, principles and concepts of epidemiology, infectious diseases and HIV/AIDS and TB that enables employee to serve as national or international expert in the field is required. Knowledge of the design, development and implementation of complex prevention programs in HIV/AIDS, TB or other infectious diseases is required.

Skills and Abilities required: 
·         Outstanding ability to communicate medical, scientific and epidemiological principles in infectious diseases, particularly HIV/AIDS and TB epidemiology is required.
·         Incumbent has to provide strong and sensitive leadership and guidance in operational research and HIV/TB prevention, care and treatment implementation activities in Uganda.
·         Exceptional skill in working with MOH personnel, clinic professionals, universities, and collaborating partners to establish and conduct prevention and treatment programs is required.
·         In addition, the incumbent will regularly provide medical and public health advice and consultation as a national and internationally recognized expert.
