Job Purpose:
  • The Project Specialist – Youth Initiative for Employment and Sustainable Livelihood and Development (YIELD) will take the lead in developing and managing Save the Children’s Education for Youth Empowerment (EYE) technical portfolio of vocation education programs in the northern region (Amuru, Nwoya & Gulu) and will be responsible for achievement of the YIELD program goals and objectives and for reporting on program implementation and quality outcomes.
  • The Project Specialist YIELD, with specific expertise in vulnerable youth vocational education and empowerment, will be responsible for overall management of the YIELD project, coordination of all the project activities in accordance with Education for Youth Employment (EYE) vocational education requirements in Uganda.
  • He/ she will also provide line management and supervision of all the YIELD staff. In addition, the Project Specialist YIELD will be responsible for working with the Education and Integrated Leadership Team in developing the overall YIELD strategy/model, increasing staff capacity to deliver high quality program, and advocacy at a national and regional level to be the voice for vulnerable youths in Uganda.
  • This will include overseeing effective implementation of planned objectives for quality of the YIELD project, the provision of technical guidance to on-going activities, assistance to and leadership on budget monitoring and tracking, representation and networking on the vocational education sub theme to external stakeholders.
  • The Specialist may be called upon as and when necessary to support the emergency team in cases of humanitarian crisis.
 Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
  • A minimum of Bachelors degree with a focus on Education, gender studies and Development in a field such as Social Sciences, Agriculture, Development Studies, Non Formal education or another relevant field.
  • Graduate or postgraduate training in project planning & management, monitoring and evaluation, community development & research or related field is an added advantage
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant working experience with at least 3 years at management level in an international NGO.
  • Experience in vocational education, livelihood with agriculture orientation and development programming
  • Working knowledge and understanding of national government policy frameworks on Non Formal education, vocational education and how to contribute to youth development with political analysis skills, sensitivity and diplomacy.
  • Solid understanding of the roles and dynamics of civil society and government actors, respectively, and the relevance of engaging with both parties in order to ensure effective promotion and protection of children’s rights.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Willingness to travel and work in hard-toreach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
  • Excellent time management and planning capacity
