Organisational Background:
The National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) was established as a statutory body under the National Information Technology Authority, Uganda Act, 2009 as one of the key players in the Information and Communications Technology Sector. Its mandated is to coordinate, promote and monitor IT development within the context of national social and economic development, with a vision as “a facilitator of a knowledge-based, globally competitive Uganda where social transformation and economic development is supported through IT enabled services”.
Job Summary: To plan for the expansion, implementation and maintenance of the National Backbone Infrastructure and the Last Mile Network
Duties & Responsibilities:
a. Plans and designs connectivity of new services with optimal consideration for available capacity in terms of timeslots, frequencies, service interfaces, protection mechanisms, among others;
b. Plans and designs client access technologies to the NBI
c. Provides quality front line support for network users on a wide range of issues, including emergencies such as Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks, loss of connectivity and security issues.
d. Troubleshoots of all network and system related problems; and
e. Maintains network user documentation including hardware/software applications, support logs and other related information;
f. Participate in the establishment of a disaster recovery/contingency plan for the network to address critical redundancy and scale issues
g. Participate in the development of a last mile blue print for the country
Academic Qualifications:
· A bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or Telecommunications Engineering is essential;
· Demonstrated project Professional certification in SDH and DWDM technologies.

· Ability to work on own initiative as well as in a team;
· Capacity to establish credibility, and trust and partnership.
· Analytical and problem –solving skills.
· Excellent interpersonal skills;
· Excellent communication and report writing skills.
· A person of integrity and honesty
Experience:
· Experience in Management and Maintenance of Huawei transport and Data Communication Equipment.
· At least 3 years’ experience in the design, implementation and Management of Optical Switching Engineering.
· Experience in Project management and Communication is essential.
