Communications Specialist, Media Support Job at African Wildlife Foundation

For more than 50 years, the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) has been a key player in African Conservation and sustainable development. AWF is currently seeking a talented professional to support its communication and media efforts within the T4B Program, Uganda.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief of Party, T4B Program, the Communications Specialist  Media Support will ensure effective coordination, development and implementation of T4B program messaging, briefing, media communications and press relations and will also assist with program logistics. This position will support internal and external communications of the program with collaborating partners, conduct outreach to the media, and develop web content. Operationally, this position will be the point person for all media relationships and outreach, improve internal and external communications of the program results with collaborating program partners, develop comprehensive outreach plans for the program activities. Advise supervisor and program technical team on system activities and transformation as well as communication opportunities. Further it will collect and process information for sector studies; maintain and train partners in increasing awareness and demand for tourism, update sector contact address lists; Facilitate communication across various components of the program; Develop, processes and disseminates program bulletins and other program promotional materials, serve as liaison with the program partners responsible for organizing and coordinating press coverage, press briefings, interviews with program staff, press releases, press supplements. Working with AWF’s Communications and Marketing team, track all media coverage of program and develop filing system; and document program events and campaigns through video, photo, and other methodologies. Liaise with relevant stakeholders, local leaders, partners and tourism private sector to coordinate efforts on engagement and other strategic matters that affect the sector. Provide backup support in consultation with both private and public. This position will be based in Kampala, Uganda
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will;
·         Have a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Business Administration or related social sciences
·         Have at least 3 years experience in similar roles
·         Have demonstrated experience working with media houses in Uganda.
·         Have demonstrated experience working with multiple partners.
·         Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
·         Strong interest in and understanding of conservation.
·         Willingness to travel to remote areas of the Uganda.
·         Have outstanding interpersonal skills
