Cheshire Services Uganda is comprised of 7 Cheshire services of Katalemwa,
Nkokonjeru Providence, Buluba, Budaka, Butiru, Pamba and the two St Francis
Schools of the Blind in Soroti. CSU is a member of the Leonard Cheshire
Disability Global Alliance

Job Summary: The
Project Officers will support children with disabilities (CWDs) in an inclusive
learning setting to learn and stay in school; engage community stakeholders
including families and school authorities to ensure successful project
implementation. .

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

·       Identify children with disabilities to
participate in the project

·       Support assessment and referral of CWDs for
rehabilitation.

·       Distribution of education supplies /
enrollment support to CWDs

·       Organize community awareness raising events
on disability and education.

·       Support training of caregivers of CWDs on
business / income generating activities.

·       Identify all cases of abuse and report them
to the Safeguarding and Advocacy Manager

·       Identify and support referral of cases of
child abuse.

·       Support the formation of child to child clubs
in school and conduct training on human rights and disability in school.

·       Keep track record and provide progress on the
adaptation and utilization of accessible environment in schools

·       Participate in capacity building trainings
organized by Cheshire Services Uganda

·       Support training of stakeholders both at
district, community and family level

·       Engage in training of teachers and other
stakeholders on Inclusive Education approaches.

·       Conduct in school sensitization on
disability, gender and safeguarding

·       Support in the maintenance of the beneficiary
data base and files.

·       Identify and document the individual
education needs of CWDs.

·       Track school attendance for children with
disabilities

·       Organize counseling, mentoring and career
guidance sessions for project beneficiaries.

·       Support CWDs to participate in
extra-curricular activities.

·       Planning and implementing activities that
develop self-esteem and social skills among CWDs

·       Regularly provide CSU an education progress
report of CWDs.

·       Adhere to Safeguarding policies and related
policies and standards

·       Identify, report and document cases of
safeguarding

·       Creating awareness on Safeguarding and child
protection for all beneficiaries and in the community.

·       Liaise with the safeguarding designate focal
person on any emerging safeguarding issues.

·       Plan, integrate and implement safeguarding
activities.

·       Follow up all cases of abuse as well as
timely response and resolution of the cases of abuse.

·       And any other duties that may be assigned
from time to time in the interest of the organization.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s
degree in development studies or related field.

·       At least Two (2) years of experience in
community development

·       Project M&E support and compile/review
quality donor reports.

·       Prior experience in designing and conducting
quantitative and qualitative data collection, including social impact
assessment, desk review, interviews and field work.

·       Working knowledge and experience of effective
financial and budgetary control and supporting projects to stay on course with
implementation

·       Knowledge of the local language is an
advantage

·       Developing others

integrity
