Job Summary: The Associate
Professional Officer reports to the Deputy Representative FAO Technical Focus
Support the formulation, implementation and monitoring of various projects
within FAO’s programme in Uganda with a focus on community
resilience/livelihoods, climate change and adaptation
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Collection and analysis of information,
    data and statistics and project / meeting services to support programme
    projects, products and services
  • Collects and analyzes relevant technical,
    social, economic, environmental, institutional and technology related
    information, data and/or statistics to support the delivery of programme
    projects, products and services
  • Undertakes analysis, provides technical
    input for plans and reports and edits/revises technical/scientific
    documents.
  • Actively participates in the development
    of improved work methods, tools and systems
  • Updates databases and web pages
  • Participates on multi-disciplinary
    project/work teams
  • Collaborates in the development of
    training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars etc.
  • Participates in the organization, conduct
    and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences, the
    development/production of required materials and the provision of
    information and assistance to partners
Specific Functions
  • Contributes to the overall implementation
    of FAO’s Country Programming Framework (CPF 2015-2019).
  • Supports the FAO office and projects in
    developing sustainable livelihoods security strategies and community
    resilience/livelihoods security technical approaches and strategies.
  • Participates in capacity building
    initiatives and training in support of the FAO programme portfolio.
    Supports assessments, research and documentation as required.
  • Develops and sustains liaison with key
    professionals in the Government, UN Country Team and Non-Governmental
    Organizations (NGOs) engaged in the field of food security.
  • Supports fund raising activities through
    networking, proposal and concepts development (as necessary) for food
    security and community resilience/livelihoods interventions.
  • Assists in ensuring gender and land tenure
    considerations are mainstreamed in ongoing projects and during project
    formulation.
  • Assists in the preparation and
    dissemination of timely analytical and critical reports, including
    proposals for improvements in operation and the scope of programmes.
  • Provides practical suggestions for
    replicating or introducing good practices, in terms of enabling different
    ways of working, overcoming implementation barriers, and policy
    opportunities and constraints.
  • Reviews available reports (including FAO’s
    projects) and national strategies and documents on land, forests, water
    and crop use and management, conduct consultative meetings with key
    stakeholders and informants.
  • Contributes to draft information materials
    and prepares periodic reports on the progress of operational projects.



Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Food and
    Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Associate
    Professional Officer (Food Security and Resilience) job opportunity should
    hold an advanced university degree in agriculture, environmental sciences,
    social sciences, or a related field
  • Three years (and maximum 4 years) of
    relevant experience in food security, climate change and adaptation
  • Working knowledge of English.
  • All candidates should possess
    computer/word processing skills.
