The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a private, independent,
humanitarian organization working on all aspects of the refugee cause in more
than 36 countries throughout the world. The aim of DRC is to protect refugees
and internally displaced persons (IDPs) against persecution and to promote
durable solutions to the problems of forced migration, on the basis of
humanitarian principles and human rights. DRC works in accordance with the UN
Conventions on Refugees and the Code of Conduct for the ICRC and NGOs in
Disaster Relief.
Job Summary: The Protection
Officer is directly responsible for the operational implementation of all
protection Service activities in the assigned DRC target areas in accordance
with the DRC Program Handbook.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Responsible for the implementation of
    day-to-day activities of the protection sector
  • Support in Budget monitoring for the
    Protection Sector.
  • Developing work plans, Budgets and
    proposals for the sector.
  • Monitoring and guiding sector
    implementations and coordination of activities
  • Performing the Human Resource management
    role at sector level.
  • Organizing and delivering protection
    trainings and promoting the laws on human rights
  • Maintain close contacts with local
    authorities and RWCs in the refugee settlement; intervene as and when
    necessary.
  • Writing sector reports (internal and
    external basing on donor specification)
  • Support systems and operational procedures
    of home and out of home care programs including foster parents, careers
    and families, schools etc.
  • Support innovative problem solving and
    strategy development to address complex issues relating to the safety and
    the wellbeing in the community.
  • Conduct routine assessment in the
    community for proper planning and activity implementation
  • Creation/Strengthening community
    structures (SGBV, Child protection, local judicial courts
Support management team to:
  • Follow up all DRC / DDG Procedures on
    Security, Finance, Logistics, HR and Administration.
  • Monitoring activity implementation/work
    plan, budget, objectives and out put
  • Conduct result based planning and programming
    (jointly with projects and finance team)
  • Internal coordination of activities (among
    the DRC sectors)
  • Provide/arrange technical support and
    coaching for staff and other partners.
  • Ensuring that cross cutting issues as
    identified by the organization are integrated into programme activities
  • Ensuring periodic reports are produced,
    edited and shared with partners as may be agreed upon
  • Follow up all DRC / DDG Procedures for
    Security, Finance, Logistics, HR and Administration.
  • Uphold DRC’s international code of
    conduct.
  • Any other tasks as may be assigned from
    time to time.



Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Danish Refugee
    Council (DRC) Protection Officer job placement must hold a University
    degree in Law, social sciences, development studies, guidance and
    counselling or relevant fields;
  • Post graduate training in project planning
    and management;
  • At least three years’ experience working
    with refugees, vulnerable communities, basic needs and distribution
    programming experience, and/or advocacy programs;
  • Good understanding of protection
    information management to improve protection outcomes;
  • Understanding of gender, protection and
    human rights;
  • Experience in protection interventions in
    line with Refugees operation with wide Knowledge in SASA methodology;
  • Previous experience of working with UN or
    Non‐Governmental
    organizations;
  • Good communication skills and ability to
    conduct training and awareness;
  • Good computer skills;
  • Good organizational and management skills.
  • Knowledge of the local languages spoken in
    the operation area is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Monitoring &
    Evaluation for UN-funded projects desired.
