WEI/Bantwana Initiative is a Non-Governmental Organization that helps
families and children orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS to access the
comprehensive support and care they need to grow into healthy adults.
About USAID BETTER OUTCOMES Project:
World Education Inc. /Bantwana (WEI/B) is implementing the five- year
USAID funded BETTER OUTCOMES for Children and Youth in Eastern and Northern
Uganda. The goal of the project is to improve the wellbeing of children and
youth orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV and other adversities in Eastern and
Northern Uganda. BETTER OUTCOMES is implemented by a consortium of five
partners, namely: WEI/B as the prime partner; Mercy Corps, Uganda Women’s
Efforts to Save Orphans (UWESO), Youth, Alive and Friends of Christ Revival
(FOC-REV); each responsible for specific technical aspects of the project. The
project is being implemented in 20 districts of Eastern and Northern Uganda.
Job Summary: The Internal
Audit Assistant will assist the Senior Internal Auditor to examine and evaluate
the adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of the organization’s internal
control systems and procedures, monitor and provide assurance of compliance
(with donor requirements, statutory requirements, as well as organizational
policies and procedures. Draft audit findings and recommend corrective actions
to improve operations.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Reviewing project accountability documents
    to ensure thoroughness, proper, complete and adequate documentation
  • Perform site visits of Implementing
    Partners and sub-grant CSOs to verify project related activities
  • Assess the adequacy, effectiveness and
    efficiency of the established internal controls and procedures
  • Checks compliance with established
    internal control procedures, rules and regulations by examining records,
    reports, operating practices, and documentation; report whether any issues
    need addressing
  • Verifies assets by comparing items to
    documentation
  • Performs sport checks on cash at hand and
    inventory, and report the findings
  • Complete audit work-papers by documenting
    audit tests and findings
  • Communicates audit findings by preparing
    audit reports; discussing findings and recommendations with relevant
    auditees and report significant issues to immediate supervisor
  • Assess action plans and monitor timely
    implementation of recommendations in the audit reports
  • Conduct ad-hoc reviews as requested by
    supervisor and provide reports thereafter
  • Performing any other tasks assigned by the
    supervisor as well as requests by senior management



Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant for the USAID Project Internal
    Audit Assistant job placement must hold a university degree in a business
    related area such as; Accounting, Finance, Economics and Business
    Administration
  • At least stage three Professional
    qualifications such as CPA and ACCA or equivalent
  • One (1) year progressive work experience
    in Internal Audit
  • Knowledge of auditing standards and
    procedures, laws, rules and regulations
  • Knowledge and experience with USAID rules
    and regulations an added advantage
  • Past experience with
    non-governmental/non-profit organizations
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and
    strive for high ethical standards at all times
