Job Summary: The Management
Information Systems Intern will support the USAID/Uganda Health Supply Chain
Program reports to the Management Information System (MIS) Advisor. S/he will
be trained in providing support and mentorship to hospital stores personnel
involved in the national roll out of electronic logistics management
information systems such as RxSolution and the Pharmaceutical Information
Portal (PIP). S/he will participate in supporting health facility staff working
in hospital stores and pharmacies to ensure proper functioning of RxSolution.
The Intern will participate in supporting process of identifying training needs
and will be part of the MIS support team in conducting trainings for program
supported districts field coordinators and implementing partners. S/he also
participates in providing front-line support for RxSolution software including
extensive engagement of identified health facilities to effectively and
continuously order health supplies from central warehouses using RxSolution,
following up on user support requests to ensure that they are resolved in a
timely manner, diagnosing and resolving system faults, supporting data
utilization of RxSolution reports in health facilities and running routine
system updates.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • The Intern will also follow up with health
    facilities, implementing partners and medical bureaus on routine reporting
    of stock status and other reports from RxSolution into the PIP and support
    the capacity building of Ministry of Health to support the implemented MIS
    solutions.
  • Electronic ordering, stock status
    reporting follow up, conference management, data use strengthening,
    Ministry of Health (MoH) call centre capacity building support, roms
    updates, IP coordination
  • Receiving support calls from end-users and
    capturing of all calls received in the help-desk system including
    consistent updating of the monitoring system with required roll out
    updates and generation of service and performance reports from the system.
  • Providing effective response (and
    escalations) to requests received through the IT helpdesk to ensure timely
    resolution and feedback to end-users and maintain inventory of all
    equipment and accessories that are used in the MIS software country wide.
  • Actively participate in providing
    mentorship and onsite training programs in RxSolution and other PMIS tools
    to improve partners’ capacity in the use of the RxSolution.
  • Prioritize support for identified health
    facilities to consistently order electronically for supplies using
    RxSolution software and link with facilities, warehouses, medical bureaus
    and partners to build support capacity for this electronic ordering.
  • Following up submission of required
    RxSolution reports from facilities by sending out alerts/reminders,
    uploading of submitted reports into PIP and supporting Ministry of Health
    Call Centre to provide the same follow up.
  • Perform any other duties that may be
    assigned from time to time as need arises.



Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicants for the Management Sciences
    for Health (MSH) Management Information Systems Intern job placement must
    hold a Bachelor’s degree in Information and Communication Technology,
    health information systems or related discipline
  • Basic knowledge in Pharmaceuticals or
    health management information systems an advantage.
  • Extensive knowledge operations in an IT
    support environment
  • Highly creative and a fast learner, with
    ability to transfer skills.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the
    principles of networking and internet technologies is added advantage
  • Basic knowledge of hospital store and
    pharmacy operations is an advantage
  • Keen interest in Information technology
    trends and skills development
  • Extensive knowledge in pharmaceutical and
    logistics management software; RxSolution preferred but could also be any
    LMIS software
