About Us:
The Uganda Youth Network
(UYONET) is a regional focused leading umbrella Youth CSO Network that works to
mainstream young peoples’ engagement in development and governance processes in
East Africa and beyond. UYONET was started in 2002 to respond to the increasing
demand for a collective platform for research, training and policy advocacy for
young people by young people. With a membership of 31 district networks
constituted by over 147 youth organizations, UYONET has continued to be the
apex of youth programming and designing appropriate interventions that respond
to the needs of the youth across the region.
Job Summary: The Accountant
will primarily handle, prepare, compute, manage, research and analyse all
accounting data, in order to provide quantitative information on performance,
financial position, solvency, liquidity and cash flows.
           
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounting: 60%
  • Meets accounting financial objectives by forecasting requirements;
    preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances;
    initiating corrective actions.
  • Confirms financial status by monitoring revenue
    and expenses; coordinating the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data; preparing
    special reports.
  • Maintains accounting controls by establishing a
    chart of accounts; defining accounting policies and procedures
  • Prepares asset, liability, and capital account
    entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Documents financial transactions by entering
    account information.
  • Recommends financial actions by analyzing
    accounting options.
  • Summarizes current financial status by
    collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports.
  • Substantiates financial transactions by
    auditing documents.
  • Maintains accounting controls by preparing and
    recommending policies and procedures.
  • Guides accounting clerical staff by
    coordinating activities and answering questions.
  • Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting
    and analyzing account information.
  • Secures financial information by completing
    database backup
Member of the management
committee: 15%         
  • Work
    closely with the Finance and Administration manager and Executive director
  • Guides other departments by researching and
    interpreting accounting policy; applying observations and recommendations
    to operational issues.
  • Maintains financial security by establishing
    internal controls.
  • Avoids legal challenges by understanding
    current and proposed legislation; enforcing accounting regulations;
    recommending new procedures.
  • Accomplishes accounting human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting,
    training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, communicating job expectations;
    planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions;
    planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and
    procedures.
  • Achieves accounting operational objectives by
    contributing accounting information and recommendations to strategic plans
    and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing
    production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing
    audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing
    change.
Donor management and reporting
10%
  • Update and maintain donor management and
    reporting plan on a regular basis
  • Work closely with the management team to contribute to donor
    management systems and processes
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and submit
    present to management 
Human resource management 10%   
  • Line and performance manage the accounts
    associate and interns
  • Train and mentor staff across the organisation in accounting, donor development and
    project cycle management
Other 5%:
  • Protects organization’s value by keeping
    information confidential.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in
    educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating
    in professional organizations.
  • Other duties as required. Occasionally working
    on weekends and holidays for which time off in lieu can be taken.        



Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree
  • At
    least three years of experience in fundraising and donor management,
    including proven experience of securing and managing grants from
    bi/multilaterals
  • Self-motivation, integrity
  • Demonstrated
    ability to reflect on
    one’s own work as well as the wider consequences of financial decisions business
    acumen and interest
  • Organisational skills and ability to manage
    deadlines
  • Teamworking ability
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in IT

  • A methodical approach and problem-solving
    skills
  • High level of numeracy
  • Individual
