by helping African families and orphans to grow enough food to eat, sell their
produce and develop small businesses that last. They have provided livestock,
seeds, training and ongoing support, to help over a million lives and their
families that live in abject poverty. The Send a Cow Group currently constitutes
Country Programmes in seven African countries plus the UK and USA, together
with a Group Executive which is based in the UK.
Job Summary: The Farm
Systems Advisor will be the technical lead of the farm systems component, the
Farm Systems Advisor will work with programme staff and partners to support
participating communities (individual group members, groups, associations and
community members), to understand and address their problems, improve and build
on their own solutions through appropriate sustainable agriculture practices.
It is the role of the Advisor to advise staff on inspiring the communities,
individuals or groups so that they can make positive changes in their lives by
undertaking efficient and effective sustainable agriculture farm enterprises.
The Farm Systems Advisor will also in liaison with SAC (UK) Group, participate
in reviewing/amending current policies, indicators and working practices, as
well as contributing to the shaping of new, approaches.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
·        
Identify and facilitate implementation of
appropriate strategies and tools to increase the capacity of staff, partners,
and peer farmer trainers on all and any aspects of sustainable Agriculture
·        
Coordinate and assist with needs assessments,
surveys (base line, reviews and project end surveys) and conduct field visits
at least 25% of the time in order to collect and verify data in relation to
sustainable agriculture.
·        
Formulate detailed personal and departmental
work plans to implement activities which address identified sustainable
agriculture development needs of project participants, families and
communities.
·        
Coordinate, report and participate in
implementing follow-up, training and retraining plans for staff/partners and to
the selected farmer groups or associations and advise on any other emerging
development needs in sustainable agriculture
·        
Ensure all projects are being implemented in
line with SACU’s sustainable agriculture training manual and according to
Program Management Guidelines.
·        
Monitor and actively participate in processes
for development of calls for proposals
·        
Establish and maintain collaborative
partnerships and linkages with any other NGO’s, government departments, private
sector and service providers on behalf of SACU. 
·        
Documentation and sharing of success stories and
case studies and all learning points 
·        
Coordinate and mentor Peer Farmer Development
individually, and as a group of specialised member volunteers.
·        
Research and propose Agriculture best practices
in NGO programs development and operations.
·        
Write Agriculture project summaries in support
of the establishment of progress as SACU program in Farming systems.
·        
Write periodical monthly, reports for internal
and external use.
·        
Review project reports for technical input
·        
Keep the regional and country level management
informed of changing context, issues and concerns in the area of farm systems.
·        
Liaise closely with other technical and thematic
advisors to ensure complementarity and consistency of message and approach
across SACU’s portfolio of work.
·        
In collaboration with other SACU advisors and
technical staff, participate in local partner due diligence assessments and
on-going reviews of the quality and impact of their work as it relates to SACU
approaches and standards.



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
·        
The applicant should preferably hold a BSc in
Agriculture with a specialty in any of these fields agronomy, extension
services, environmental science, soil and water management, rural development
or other related fields.         
·        
Possession of post graduate qualifications in
agriculture, agricultural extension, rural development, or other related fields
·        
At least five to eight years’ experience in
sustainable agriculture, three of which should be at community level
·        
Practical experience in implementing Agriculture
projects
·        
Experience of leading, supporting, managing, a
team
·        
Experience of organizing and conducting
trainings and workshops at different level
·        
Experience of project proposal writing and fund
raising
·        
Experience of commercial agricultural produce
and value chains, including working with stakeholders at different parts of the
chain
·        
Practical experience with small and large
agricultural livestock
·        
Technical skills in sustainable agriculture and
environmental improvement
·        
Able to design and facilitate sustainable
agriculture and environmental improvement training exercises for staff and
partners
·        
Able to participate at all levels with
government and other development partners
·        
High level of interpersonal skills with the
ability to work across cultures and religions, with strong communication and
listening abilities, good problem solving approach and conflict resolution at
individual and community level
·        
Good report writing &presentation skills,
and ability to make analysis of data for country level presentation
·        
Good level of computer literacy and demonstrated
ability to capture data/information using different advanced computer software.
·        
Good understanding of government agricultural
and environmental policies, particularly in relation to SACU programmes and
other NGOs
·        
Have empathy with Send a Cow’s Christian
foundation and core values
