Job Summary: The Hygiene and
Sanitation Assistant – Omugo Multi Sectorial Project will primarily implement
WASH interventions in emergency and rehabilitation phase in the West Nile
Emergency Response according to standards and policies of WVU and other
internationally recognized standards. The incumbent leads in the implementation
of WASH activities in the Refugee Settlements with the support of the Project
Manager, Coordinator, Hygiene and Sanitation Officer and Local Government
extension staff.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
·        
Conduct periodic assessment of sanitation and
hygiene practices and needs at institutions and community levels in order to
identify areas for interventions and validation of the WASH annual plans for
the Response Programme area assigned
·        
Identify and lead the mobilization and
sensitization of target beneficiaries at communities and institutions levels to
participate in WASH programme.
·        
Make sure that targeted children in emergency
benefit and participate in the WASH programme interventions.
·        
Conduct Participatory Sanitation and Hygiene
education and awareness through appropriate child-based approaches including
Child Hygiene and Sanitation training, Hand Washing Triggering and Child –
Child methodologies.
·        
Establishment, capacity enhancement and
maintenance of functional Community-based Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion structures
at institutional and community levels.
·        
Support establishment and implementation of
health and hygiene promotion activities in institutions.
·        
Render support in the monitoring of construction
works and usage of existing WASH facilities through routine visits and provide
guidance for follow up of community and local government structures responsible
for service delivery.
·        
Develop a community disease awareness system at
community and institutional level and liaise with all Health Centre In-charges
to monitor and report on prevalence of WASH related diseases.
·        
Carry out basic trainings and refresher
trainings as well as extend guidance and technical support to the
Community-based Hygiene and Sanitation Promotion structures on PHAST, CHAST,
MHM, liquid soap making, etc.
·        
Compile weekly, monthly and periodic plans and
reports on general WASH project activities in the project implementation areas.
·        
Assist in the provision of necessary data for
the development of the annual budgets and activity plans of all the software
activities and ensure they are implemented timely and are of high quality.
·        
Able to contribute to resource mobilization
through designing budgets and concept notes.
·        
Perform any other duties as assigned by the
supervisor.



Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·        
The ideal candidate for the World Vision Hygiene
and Sanitation Assistant job opportunity should hold a University Degree in
Environmental Health Sciences, Public Health, Water Supply & Sanitation or
any other related field attained from a recognized higher institution of
learning.
·        
At least two years of experience in implementing
Health, and WASH related activities preferably within an International NGO.
·        
Previous experience in facilitating CLTS, CHAST
and PHAST sessions.
·        
Excellent facilitation skills, community
mobilization skills and the ability to effectively communicate key issues to
communities
·        
Demonstrated ability to coordinate a range of
diverse actors and activities to achieve a common objective in the area of
Sanitation and Hygiene.
·        
Extensive knowledge of PRA methods and
willingness to live in the rural communities in the project areas.
·        
Good computer skills and ability to write
technical reports
·        
Ability to ride a motor cycle with a clean
riders’ license, class A
·        
Fluent in applicable local Languages and
English.
·        
Must be a committed Christian, able to stand
above denominational diversities.
·        
Willingness to attend and participate/lead in
daily devotions and weekly Chapel services
