DFCU bank is a fast growing commercial bank offering a variety of
innovative products and services. DFCU Limited was started by the Commonwealth
Development Corporation (CDC) of the United Kingdom and the Government of
Uganda through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development
Finance Company of Uganda Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of
Germany) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC
and UDC, each having a 25% stake in the company. Its objective was to support
long-term development projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to
the then existing financial commercial lending institutions.
Job Summary: The Business
Support Officer will undertake risk
prevention initiatives for the assigned business portfolio to ensure that the Bank’s
delinquent portfolio is kept at the barest minimum through rigorous monitoring
and debt remediation for proactive and effective risk prevention. The incumbent
will also provide support to the
Business Team to monitor client transactions, banking covenants, maximize
the value chain opportunities in the Business Banking portfolio and to provide tracking
support for all credit applications, security documents, offer letters,
guarantees so as to improve customer Turnaround Time.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:   
  • Attending
    to customers’ queries and service needs in the absence of the Relationship
    Managers or Business Bankers so that there is seamless service continuity
    in the Department.
  • Proactive
    Monitoring of the customers’ transactions, on a daily basis; using the
    Daily Transactions Report, Daily Client Turnover Report and Daily
    RM Portfolio Credit Turnover Report to ensure that all customers are fully
    banking their business sales proceeds with DFCU and also to support the
    Sellers in identifying dormant customers for re-introduction.
  • Cross
    selling the Bank’s products to the customers and ensuring that all customers
    are on boarded to the right platforms and effectively utilizing the
    platforms.
  • Proactive
    management of the Business Banking Portfolio to minimize delinquency by
    monitoring the offer covenants and behavior, early detection of changes in
    business environment and banking of the clients, track Bank’s exposure on
    contracts & Maturing
  • Guarantees for early alert to the
    Relationship Managers and Business Bankers, liaise with Legal Department
    to track incomplete security files for perfection, monitor quality & frequency
    of calls made by the Relationship Managers.
  • Coordinate
    action with the Business Team to closely remind clients of the maturing
    obligations and early recovery effort and follow up clients bankings to
    ensure timely repayment of credit facilities.
  • Keenly
    track and analyse the action plan with clear timelines for all the unpaid
    instalments and submit daily consolidated reports for the entire
    Business Banking Portfolio to Credit Department.
  • Coordinate
    the execution and delivery of the FIRST reminder letters and other
    documents to clients regarding arrears.
  • Maintain
    administrative workflow by printing all Business Loans, Credit
    Applications and related information documents received from
    branches, retrieve clients’ physical credit files from Registry to be
    submitted to Credit along with the new application, for financing consideration.
  • Follow-up
    offer letters, security documents, guarantees and disbursement requests
    with the respective stakeholders for and on behalf of the Business
    Banking Team.
  • Maintain,
    update and communicate the Business Credit Applications Turnaround Time
    through a Tracking Report for all credit applications submitted to Head
    Office by the Branches and will be in charge of escalating breaches on the
    Service Level Agreement to the respective Heads of Departments.
  • Maintains
    continuity of work operations by documenting and communicating needed
    actions to management; discovering irregularities; determining continuing
    needs, monitoring the Turnaround Time between Business Banking and Head
    Office using the Turnaround Tracking Report.
  • Ensuring
    quality customer service to business customers at the Business Centres,
    where you will be stationed.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The applicant for the DFCU Business
    Support Officer job opportunity must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Banking or a related
    field
  • Professional
    qualification in a related field e.g. ACCA, CFA is recommended
  • At
    least two years’ experience in financial credit and business
  • Strong
    grasp of the Bank’s strategy and its portfolio of products and
    services
  • Extensive
    knowledge of the Bank’s policies, processes and procedure relating to
    credit
  • Broad
    knowledge and understanding and interpretation of industrial and national
    economic trends
  • Good
    knowledge of the relevant legal and regulatory frame including the
    Financial
  • Institutions Act, the Mortgage Act, the
    Central Bank Lending Guidelines, the Financial
  • Consumer Protection Guidelines etc;
  • Good
    knowledge of the bank’s credit ICT’s including the core banking system
    (IGOR), Credit
  • Quest, MIS etc
  • Good
    knowledge of Ms. Suite especially Ms. Excel.
  • Credit
    skills and facility structuring.
  • Good
    recovery and collection skills.
