the leading Universities in Uganda offering a number of academic programmes in
line with vocational education, teacher training, hands-on engineering, special
needs training, social sciences, pure and applied sciences, entrepreneurship
and management that meet the Market remands and development needs of the
Country. The Strategic Focus Areas of the University include: Teaching
Learning; Research, Innovation and Knowledge Generation; Physical
Infrastructure, Facilities and ICT Development; Institutional Development and
Strategic Marketing.
Job Summary: The Senior Public
Relations Officer will manage the marketing and public relations policies and
strategies of the University and act as a link between the University, the
public and other organizations with the aim of projecting the image of the
University positively.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Project and promote the University image
    to the people and students in various institutions and schools.
  • Manage the development of programs to be
    placed in the Mass Media that will reflect the contribution of the
    University and its achievements in the provision of higher education.
  • The jobholder will also market the
    University programs through advertisements, exhibitions, radio and
    television talks, shows, and manuals or bulletins and conferences.
  • Coordinate arrangements and preparations
    for University functions such as graduations.
  • Send feedback to management on the opinion
    of the public about the University.
  • To respond to public complaints about the
    University activities in accordance with the University’s communication strategy.
  • Guide the Vice-Chancellor on the right
    course of action to take on major public complaints published in
    mass-media or in letters addressed to the Vice chancellor.
  • Manage the preparation of market surveys
    on the university’s products and services.
  • Appraise the performance of staff in the
    Section and recommend appropriate action.
Key Performance Outputs:
  • Comprehensive and sound public relations
    policies, procedures and manuals developed.
  • Programs on the University activities
    developed and put in mass media to educate the public about the
    University’s activities.
  • Newsletters, bulletins and press releases
    prepared on the University’s programs.
  • Regular, concise and accurate information
    about the University released to the press in a timely manner.
  • University functions well prepared and
    arranged.
  • Public complaints attended to.
  • Vice-Chancellor properly advised about
    major public complaints.
  • Staff performance appraised.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate must hold a Masters’
    degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related
    field from a recognized University/Institution.
  • The applicant must also hold a Bachelor’s
    degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or a related
    field from a recognized University/Institution.
  • At least six years’ experience in Public
    Relations and Marketing related duties in a reputable public or private
    Organization, three of which at the level of a Public Relations/Marketing
    Officer.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and
    leadership skills.
  • Computer literacy skills
  • Age: Below 55 Years
