Job Summary: The Senior
Communication Specialist works in close collaboration with the Country
Representative, Project Directors, and field teams to manage MSH communications
activities. S/he updates and oversees the implementation of the MSH Business
Development communications plan as necessary. Working with other communications
officers within project, s/he manages visibility events and media engagement in
MSH-led activities. Support communications for business development. Coordinate
with Project Communication Specialist to harmonize communication packages. The
Business Development and Communications Officer communications in close
collaboration with the MSH HO Communications team manages platforms on OLLIE
(MSH Intranet) and trains and supports other staff to make their contributions.
The Officer will also facilitate communication flows to ensure that MSH
decision-makers and key external stakeholders receive the timely and credible
information they need in a format that is adapted to the target audience.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
Communications:
  • The incumbent will disseminate a steady
    flow of information (updates, human interest stories, talking points and
    Q&As, blogs etc) to relevant offices
  • Work in liaison with other communications
    officers within projects, write human interest stories and regularly
    provide/take high-resolution, good quality digital images/photos and
    videos of MSH’s work.
  • Render support in the communication and
    dissemination of research outputs from programs, and provide editing
    support and identify formats and methodologies appropriate to effective
    sharing of findings.
  • Keenly monitor print and electronic media
    for mentions of MSH and other topics of interest to the organization, and
    inform the Country Representative.
  • Manage the MSH brand in country and
    develop communication products to promote MSH visibility
  • Ensure professional and accurate media
    engagement of MSH, in coordination with the Director of Strategic
    Communications in the Home Office.
  • Ensure the country information on the MSH
    external and internal (Ollie) websites is continuously updated and staff
    informed accordingly. Provide updates to MSH intranet and on Friday Focus.
    Train and motivate staff to make contributions to OLLIE
  • Keep abreast with key project activities
    and report results from all MSH projects in the country
Business Development:
  • Actively participate in reviews,
    assessments and baseline studies to gather and prepare background
    information and data for the design of programs and projects
  • Ensure that information is provided in a
    timely fashion and relevant staff are involved in the proposal development
    process
  • Serve as proposal support officer,
    ensuring support/engagement of relevant technical staff
External Engagement:
  • Actively participate in coordination
    meetings with stakeholders, INGOs, local organizations, and high-level
    government officials when and as requested.
  • Coordinate MSH’s participation in key
    donor, and government coordination meetings.
  • Maintain all external correspondences and
    appointments of the Country Representative.
  • Maintain MSH’s master list of stakeholder
    contact information and update regularly.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Management
    Sciences for Health Senior Communications Specialist job opportunity
    should hold a Bachelor’s Degree, (Master’s an additional advantage) of
    Social Sciences, Communications or equivalent;
  • At least three to five years’ experience
    working with an NGO or UN agency or equivalent, is preferred;
  • Significant exposure and experience in
    business development or project design and reporting;
  • Expertise in representation and
    negotiation with governments and donors;
  • Ability to relate and represent MSH to
    major program partners, in a highly professional manner;
  • Able to communicate clearly and
    sensitively with internal and external stakeholders as a representative of
    MSH;
  • Gender awareness and cultural sensitivity;
  • Ability to work independently and as a
    team player;
  • Good level management and problem-solving skills;
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of
    print, radio, television and online social media;
  • Previous experience working in journalism,
    communications, media, or PR;
  • Excellent written and oral communication
    skills;
  • Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency
    in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint;
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
