About Us:
Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd was incorporated in March
2001 under the Companies Act, 2012 on the basis of the Public Enterprises
Reform and Divestiture Act, Cap 98 and Electricity Act, Cap 145 respectively.
UEGCL is wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of Uganda. UEGCL’s key
role is to – carry on the business of electric power generation and sale within
Uganda or for export to neighbouring countries; build, operate and maintain
Electricity Generation Plants; monitor the operation and maintenance of its
Concessioned Assets – Nalubaale and Kiira Power Stations; provide Technical
Support as and when required by the Government of the Republic of Uganda
through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development; organize, support,
encourage and maintain training facilities in technical and related fields,
amongst others.
Job Summary: The Risk
Manager will effectively and efficiently coordinate the development and
implementation of UEGCL’s Risk Management Strategy and comprehensive Enterprise
Risk Management initiatives and programs across the Company. The incumbent is
accountable for the identification, measurement, monitoring and control of
risks and to coordinate development and update of risk strategy, policy,
processes, controls and tools.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Oversee the development and implementation
    of the risk management policy and strategy towards fullfilment of the
    Company’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Develop and implement risk management
    programs, systems and procedures for the identification, assessment and
    management of potential risks in liaison with the key risk owners/process
    owners in compliance with applicable risk management standards.
  • Ensure that all possible risks (policy,
    strategy, compliance, operational e.t.c.) are identified, analyzed,
    assessed in a timely manner and appropriate risk responses formulated and
    implemented.
  • Formulate and implement an effective and
    cost efficient risk monitoring, evaluation and reporting framework and
    report to Management and the appropriate Board Committee (through the
    appropriate function head) on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis as
    appropriate
  • Ensure that management and staff are
    continuously trained and sensitized on risk management and their
    respective roles and responsibilities in risk management.
  • Keep abreast with, monitor and report new
    trends and developments in risk management to improve risk programs and
    keep management appraised of the developments and their effects.
  • Effectively coordinate the implementation
    of the risk mitigation actions by the respective risk powers/business
    units.
  • Perform any other assignments by
    management.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate for this placement must hold a Bachelor‘s degree in
    Engineering, Business Management, Economics, or related
  • Possession
    of an MBA or other post graduate qualification with a bias towards
    strategic planning, risk management, or project management is an added
    advantage.
  • Membership
    of a relevant professional body such as ACCA, UIPE/ERB, PRM.
  • A
    minimum of seven years’ experience of which five should be at a senior
    level.
  • Strong
    professional skills and demonstrated experience in Risk Management and
    working with Risk Management Systems and tools.
  • Previous experience in infrastructure/plant
    operations management and knowledge of the electricity sub-sector will be
    an added advantage.
