Iowa State University-Uganda Program (ISU-UP) is a foreign NGO based in
Kamuli District.  ISU-UP is rooted in the
land grant mission of Iowa State University and the College of Agriculture and
Life Sciences, Center for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods (CSRL). The ISU-UP
envisions higher quality of life of the rural Ugandans in which rural people
have access to sufficient food, sustainable income, good health and wellbeing.
Every program is envisioned with an eye towards the future vitality of rural
Uganda. 
           
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Manage the Nutrition Education Centers
    (NECs) committed to the first 1000 days of a child’s life.
  • Establish and manage a supplementary
    School Lunch Program at rural primary schools in Kamuli District in
    coordination with school and local education officials.
  • Formulate appropriate monitoring and
    evaluation frameworks and key indicators for nutrition education programs
    that support qualitative and quantitative performance tracking and
    reporting.
  • Take a leading role in developing and
    adapting innovations in nutrition and health, which might include
    appropriate technology, approaches to manage moderate to severe
    malnutrition, WASH related technologies and enhancement of household food
    and nutrition security and incomes
  • Participate in program meetings and other
    staff development activities
  • Participate in grant writing when needed
  • Develop annual budgets in collaboration
    with CSRL Associate Director for Nutrition Education.  Follow all established procedures in
    regards to cash advances and accountability for all purchases.
  • Prepare annual, monthly and weekly
    workplans and reports. Develop annual program goals and objectives and set targets.
  • Supervise Iowa State University (ISU) and
    Makerere University interns and volunteers attached to the Nutrition
    Education program.  This includes
    participation in the selection process as well as in defining the
    interns/volunteers roles and responsibilities.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by
    the ISU-UP National Director.
     
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Community
    Nutrition Specialist job placement must hold a Master’s degree in:  Nutrition, community Nutrition, applied
    human nutrition or dietetics or a bachelor’s degree in these field with at
    least eight years of implementing community nutrition programs in the
    field. 
  • At least two years of field experience in
    community nutrition service delivery
  • The individual should have interest,
    expertise, and practical experience in community nutrition
  • Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency
    in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other computer skills.
Compensation: A competitive
package of salary and health benefits will be offered to the successful
applicant.  Salary will be based on the
salary history of the successful candidate.
