Distribution Logistics, Project Logistics, Warehousing, Airfreight, Transports,
Sea freight Overland and comprehensive Logistics.
Job Summary: The Regional
Database Administrator will take charge of the overall function of all
Databases by providing a high available homogenous Data Structure for Spedag
Interfreight Group in Africa.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:   
  • Monitors databases to optimize database
    performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases;
    addresses a variety of database integration issues including migration
    between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity
    planning issues, and new applications.
  • Develop, implement and maintain change
    control and testing processes for modifications to database.
  • Keenly monitors and maintains database
    security and database software.
  • Maintains availability and integrity of
    databases through multiple access schemes; facilitates sharing of common
    data by overseeing proper key and index management and data dictionary
    maintenance.
  • Regularly monitors and manages database
    backups, logs, and journals; installs, maintains, and upgrades database
    software; restores and/or recovers data as required and ensure root causes
    is corrected.
  • Provides advice to applications
    programmers in the effective use of database languages; advises on
    troubleshooting, exception processing needs, and other data management
    issues.
  • Creates, procedures and maintains various
    database related documents such as manuals and programmers’ handbooks.
  • Monitor Database Replication, both uni-directional
    and bi-directional using Oracle Golden Gate, by reducing lag time in the
    replication and ensure database is up to date at all time.
  • Work closely with IT Support (or)
    Development Team for incidents escalation.
  • Provide 2nd level support for database
    related issues.
  • Tasked with mapping out the conceptual
    design for a planned database/application; considering both back-end
    organization of data and front-end accessibility for end-users.
  • Ensure the DBMS & Middleware are
    always on the latest available version.
  • Develop and implement archive and capacity
    management plan.
  • Ensure database integrity and security by
    communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational
    staffs
  • Establish procedures for
    post-implementation review as set out in the implementation plan.
  • Mentor and train staff in accordance with
    the defined training and implementation plan and associated materials, as
    part of every information systems development, implementation or
    modification project.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Regional
    Database Administrator job opportunity should preferably hold a Bachelor
    of Science or IT related discipline;
  • A minimum of five years’ experience that
    is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Oracle Database 12c Administrator
    Certified Associate Certification (OCA) – OCP Preferred.
  • Oracle Golden Gate 12c Implementation
    Essentials (Preferred)
  • Qualification and Certification on Oracle
    Database Administration (OCP) 11g & 12c
  • Qualification and Certification on Oracle
    WebLogic Middleware and Oracle Golden Gate.
  • Good knowledge and experience of
    Microsoft®
  • Windows Operating Systems
  • Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word,
    PowerPoint, OneNote)
  • Expertise in RMAN Backup/Archiving
    solutions.
  • Shell scripting experience.
  • Working knowledge on writing Procedural
    language (PL/SQL) knowledge and experience.
  • Working knowledge in the Microsoft Office
    Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Projects)
  • Working knowledge in preparing technical
    documentation.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and
    leadership to professional personnel in area of expertise.
  • Previous experience with performance
    tuning, explain plan execution processes.
  • Prior experience in relevant database
    design, development, implementation, test and documentation.
  • Good working knowledge of job scheduling
    and monitoring tools.
  • Know-how of freight forwarding, logistics
    or transport industry
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of
    Spedag Interfreight strategy and products (is a plus)
  • Project Management experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of business
    processes
  • Capable of making informed decisions and
    provide practical, timely solutions
  • Willingness to involve stakeholders in the
    decision making process, to get buy-in and to implement solutions.
  • Computer literacy and good MS Office
    skills (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Detail oriented and able to multi task
  • Ability to work alone or in a team,
    co-operation (mentoring, motivation)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal
    skills
  • Target-driven spirit
  • High energy and resilience.
  • Be authentic, approachable, open and
    honest.
  • Active Directory: Preferred
    knowledge and experience in ITIL and/or Cobit
  • Language skills: Fluent in
    English
