About USAID RHITES-EC Project:
University Research Co., LLC (URC) is implementing the USAID Regional
Health Integration to Enhance Health Services in East Central Uganda Project
(USAID/Uganda RHITES-EC) whose aim is to support the implementation of a
comprehensive integrated investment in regional 
health, nutritional assistance and HIV/AIDS programs. The five-year
project targets 11 districts in East Central Uganda with an estimated total
population of 4.1 million through a district-based integrated package of
quality health, nutrition, HIV / AIDS and childe development services.
Job Summary: The Nutrition
Program Officer will mainly be responsible for the integration of nutritional
assessment, counseling, and support (NACS) into HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and
treatment services. The officer will work closely with the Care/Treatment and
PMTCT Advisors to plan for and implement improvement interventions aimed at
bettering nutritional outcomes among people living with HIV and AIDS as well as
promoting optimal infant and young child feeding practices, as per the national
guidelines.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Tasked with the integration of Nutrition
    into on-going project activities including Capacity building, Clinical
    care, PMTCT, Community linkages, Quality Improvement, psychosocial care/counseling
    and pharmaceutical logistics, M&E
  • Support health facilities supported by
    RHITES-EC to integrate and implement effective and sustainable NACS
    (Nutrition Assessment, Counseling and Support) services
  • Explore opportunities for partnership with
    other stakeholders in the area of HIV nutrition integration
  • Oversee and support the integration
    process of NACS into HIV/AIDS programs in all RHITES-EC sites
  • Support the sites towards attainment of a
    Baby Friendly Status in collaboration with the PMTCT/Paed Technical
    Advisor, MoH and partners
  • Work in liaison with health facility teams
    to apply quality improvement methods including learning sessions for
    improved nutrition outcomes
  • Work closely with health facility teams to
    develop and submit QI indicators inclusion into and use in the QI
    trainings/learning sessions and site coaching
  • Plan and conduct quarterly site
    mentorship/supervision towards improved nutrition integration and
    reporting
  • Actively participate in development and
    writing of program work plans and reports
  • Represent RHITES-EC in
    meetings/seminars/conferences when called upon
  • Collaborate with other IPs in
    adapting/adopting materials, equipment and supplies including RUTF, and
    referral and enrollment of clients into available sustainable/livelihood programs
  • Participate in documentation and
    dissemination/sharing of the RHITES-EC project results
  • Coordinate service provider skills
    strengthening support in the areas of nutritional assessment, counseling
    support as well as infant and young child feeding
  • Take up any other duties as may be
    assigned
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The applicants for the USAID RHITES-EC Program
    Officer – Nutrition job opportunity must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Human
    Nutrition, Food Science and technology or related field
  • At least five years’ experience in
    Community Nutrition and/or HIV nutrition programming
  • Previous exposure and experience with
    USAID and/or other donor projects is an added advantage
  • Excellent writing, organizational,
    coordination and communication skills desired
  • Proven ability to set priorities,
    multi-task, and work collaboratively as well as independently preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills desired
