About US:
The Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit HIV
research program that was established in 2002 as a result of a memorandum of
understanding between Makerere University and The Henry M. Jackson foundation
for Advancement of Military Medicine Inc. of USA (HJF). The primary purpose of
MUWRP is to develop, evaluate and provide interventions to mitigate disease
threats of public health importance to Uganda.
Job Summary: The Accounts
Assistant will provide overall support to the Finance section in the areas of
petty cash management, voucher preparation, following up accountability of
working advances, filling of accounting documents and entering accounting data
into the accounting software. This position requires keen attention to detail
and high levels of confidentiality and integrity.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Tasked with verifying the accuracy and
    approval of invoices, purchase orders and other accounting documents or
    records placed for payment.
  • Responsible for mobile money payment
    processing to include verification of beneficiary’s mobile numbers and
    related beneficiary’s names and uploading correctly verified numbers and
    names to mobile money payment platforms.
  • Update and maintain accounting journals,
    ledgers and other records detailing financial business transactions
  • Responsible for handling /entering
    approved payment requests and purchase orders into accounting software-
    Microsoft Dynamics NAV
  • Uploading payments into the online banking
    platform ( Straight2bank for SCB and Citi online banking for CITIBANK)
  • Conducting field visits to ensure project
    resources are put to the right use.
  • Assist in the review of accountability
    provided by the districts and CSOs
  • Preparation/ lining up of payment vouchers
    for both cash and bank payments
  • Carrying out banking duties as a third party
    agent including making cash deposits, cash withdrawals, picking bank
    statements and other related tasks
  • Follows up accountability of advances
    following procedures in the accounting manual
  • Responsible for processing receipts and
    sales invoices for Lab incomes
  • Regular update of payment schedule file
    for DFA or his designee to determine required funding levels for the
    different bank accounts.
  • Participate in the month end closures
  • Participate in the preparation of Audit
    files / Audit processes
  • Reconcile bank statements by comparing
    statements with general ledger.
  • Other reasonable duties assigned by the
    supervisor and / or Head of Department
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Accounts
    Assistant job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • At least three years of related experience
    in a busy office environment
  • Previous experience with using Microsoft
    Dynamics NAV
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and
    self-motivated.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
    simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and in a
    team.
  • Fluency in verbal and written English.
