The Johns Hopkins University/Center for Communication Programs (CCP) is
a pioneer in the field of strategic, research based communication for behavior
change and health promotion that has helped transform the theory and practice
of public health. The Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP) is
working with the Uganda Ministry of Health and partners involved in
Schistosomiasis prevention and control to design and implement a mass media
campaign promoting prevention. 
Job Summary: The Consultant
will carry out a literature review and situation analysis on Schistosomiasis in
Uganda including knowledge, attitudes and practices associated with
schistosomiasis infestation and prevention. 
The literature review will inform the design of the prevention campaign.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:   
  • Search the internet for published and
    unpublished research, documents, and articles concerning Schistosomiasis
    in Uganda.
  • Speak with experts on Schistosomiasis
    control and prevention in Uganda, and collect documents, statistics,
    research reports, and sample communication materials concerning
    Schistosomiasis.
  • Consult with the Ministry of Health
    Neglected Tropical Diseases Division, the Schistosomiasis Control
    Initiative (SCI), RTI Envision Project, and partners in the efforts to
    eradicate Schistosomiasis in Uganda to identify literature, documents,
    reports, and statistics regarding control efforts, prevalence, prevention
    strategies, community knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices
    affecting prevention.
  • Draft a report of findings, including
    bibliography, summarizing key findings concerning Schistosomiasis control
    and prevention, prevalence, knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices
    influencing Schistosomiasis prevalence and prevention.   The report should not be more than 10 –
    15 pages and should be properly referenced and include a bibliography of
    all citations presented in the Harvard style.
  • Revised the draft report according to
    comments from CCP and MOH.
  • Prepare a Powerpoint presentation of key
    findings and present during a stakeholders meeting in February, 2017.
     
Key Deliverables:
  • Copies of literature downloaded from an
    internet search for published and unpublished reports, documents, and
    research concerning Schistosomiasis prevention and control, focusing on
    public knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices in Uganda.
  • Report of key informants interviewed and
    copies of documents, reports, and literature on Schistosomiasis in Uganda
    collected during interviews
  • Draft report on the prevalence, control
    and prevention efforts, public knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices
    regarding Schistosomiasis in Uganda.
  • Final approved report, no longer than 10 –
    15 pages, properly referenced with bibliography of citations presented in
    Harvard style.
  • Powerpoint presentation, and live
    presentation of key findings during stakeholder meeting in February, 2017.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
 
  • The ideal candidate for this consultancy
    should hold a Master’s  degree in
    Public Health or a Medical Degree, and experience conducting literature
    reviews on health issues.   
  • Excellent written and spoken English
    skills.  
  • Familiarity with Schistosomiasis and
    neglected tropical diseases in Uganda is desired
  • Must be a Ugandan citizen or resident of
    Uganda with a current work permit.
