The
African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), founded in 1961 as the African Wildlife
Leadership Foundation, is an international conservation organization that
focuses on critically important landscapes in Africa. When founded in 1961, the
purpose was to train Africans to maintain game reserves professionally,
ensuring an adequate supply of game for hunters on safari. Later, the mandate
evolved to supporting western scientists in studies of protected animals in
their natural habitat. More recently, the focus has been on developing
sustainable systems that benefit both animals and local human communities.
Job Summary: The Driver/Field Assistant will undertake driving
and field assignments in Lake Mburo, assist with logistics and ensure proper
maintenance of the vehicle assigned together with other facilities and
equipment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • The incumbent will provide driving services
    to Lake Mburo team or to other assigned executives/staff/partners
  • Offer timely administrative support services
    to Lake Mburo field program, by handling routine office functions
  • Ensure the vehicle is always clean and has
    enough fuel for the next activity
  • Ensure the assigned vehicle is serviced on
    schedule and its insurance valid
  • Ensure that the vehicle has log sheets and
    the same are regularly filled, approved and submitted for accounting in
    time.
  • Ensure that your supervisor and other
    officers on field trips receive necessary logistical support to make their
    trips successful
  • Offer support in data collection i.e. mapping
    through the use of GPS, socio-economic survey, taking pictures and
    livestock/animal counts
  • Support the program officer in ensuring that
    visitors to Lake Mburo are comfortable by having their accommodation ready
    and anything that they might need while in Murchison
  • Support the Community Liaison Officer in
    ensuring smooth running of field workshop and trainings by having all the
    necessary materials available. If the training or the workshop is taking
    place in the community areas, then make arrangements for trainers,
    participants lunch and drinks
  • Actively participate in Lake Mburo logistical
    activities planning
  • Perform any other duties assigned by
    Supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the African Wildlife
    Foundation (AWF), Lake Mburo Driver/Field Assistant job placement must
    have completed secondary school with an A’ level certificate
  • The applicant must hold a valid driving license
  • At least five years of clean driving experience
  • Have mechanics certificate (an added
    advantage)
  • Be able to operate office machinery
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English
    and (local language)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Internet/Email communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet
    deadlines
  • Be willing to travel to remote and sometimes
    harsh environment
  • Desire to learn about organization
  • Show commitment to AWF and its mission
