(32 East), a center for the creation and exploration of contemporary Ugandan
art. Based in the capital, Kampala, the Trust provides the artistic community
with studio space, workshops, residencies and artist-led outreach projects. Through
supporting education, innovation and exchange we aim to support and promote
contemporary Uganda art nationally and internationally.
Job Summary: The Programmes Manager will primarily  research, plan and oversee the operations of
an exciting annual Programme of artists’ residencies, public talks and outreach
projects that aim to promote and excite the art scene in Kampala. The programs
Manager will work within a small team to oversee the day-to-day operations of
the art center.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. General:
  • Organize the set-up of an oversee 320 East’s regular
    events; art theory groups, artists presentations and informal exhibitions
  • Manage 320 East’s Administrator and interns,
    translators and other additional support staff.
  • Work closely with the Administrator to manage 320
    East’s day-to-day operations including, but not limited to; Health and
    Safety, Security and General Administrative tasks.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network in both the
    local and international artistic community by regularly attending arts
    events in the city and representing 320 East at local and national arts
    events
  • Gather informed feedback from
    workshops/events/residencies to communicate to team during staff meetings
  • Plan and oversee cooperation with local partner
    organizations of 320 East.
  • Organize and lead staff meetings, ensure minutes are
    taken and distributed by administrator.
  • Organize and undertake monthly meetings with
    Director.
2. Artists’
in residence:
  • Manage the general administration of the Ugandan
    artists in residence Programme, supported by the administrator; booking
    taxis, hotels, hospitality etc.
  • Regularly communicate with the KCCA, police and city
    authorities for any public works to be undertaken by the artist.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for artists in
    residence general needs and welfare.
  • Provide artist in residence with hospitality pack and
    contract and oversee management of artists budgets with Financial Officer
  • Oversee and manage the execution of the artists in
    residence end event/or public presentation
  • Manage the budget in consultation with Financial
    Officer
  • Gather artist in residence feedback and report to
    Director.
3. Research
and Programming:
  • Support the Director in developing the annual
    Programme
  • Research ideas and artists for residencies, exchange
    and public engagement in line with the mission and vision of 320 East
  • Communicate annual Programme to 320 EastDevelop
    Marketing strategy in collaboration with Media Manager
4.
Membership:
  • Develop a strategy for engaging and recruiting 320
    East members
  • Develop a financially sustainable membership strategy
    – making sure all fees are up to date etc.
  • Manage annual members exhibition
  • Send regular updates to members and keep members
    regularly informed of 320 East activities
  • Be first point of contact for members
  • Update and oversee members’ mailing list with
    Administrator
  • Receive updates from the Administrator on membership
    overdue
  • Report to Director on membership strategy
5. Marketing
and Promotion:
  • Oversee distribution of posters and printed materials
  • Ensure clear lines of communication between 320 East
    activities and those taking place in Kampala
6. Communications
and Audience Development:
  • Support the Director with communications strategy
    with 320 East partners and audiences; members/donors/artist/public
  • Establish a press strategy including compiling a
    mailing list of press contacts and creating a template for press releases
    for relevant projects
  • Work with Media Manager to ensure relevant marketing;
    SMS, Mail chimp, e-mails, posters, flyers are delivered for each project –
    each project/event should have a strategic marketing system
  • Provide Media Manager with texts and other
    communications material
  • Liaise with the Administrator to maintain 320 East’s
    mailing list
  • Actively promote 320 East to all stakeholders
    inclusive of artists, arts organizations and the public both locally and
    international to develop and maintain a strong and credible public image.
7. Project
fundraising, Execution and Reporting:
  • Raise project funds for 320 East projects through
    grant writing and peer to peer funder development
  • Create and oversee individual project budgets with
    Finance Officer
  • Communicate with Finance Officer on all budgeting
    issues
  • Account and report to Director for all project
    expenditure
  • Keep abreast of deadlines for reporting
  • Execute project reports to relevant funders
  • Consolidation of donor narratives and financial
    reporting according to each donors schedule and contract
8. Administration
and Accounts:
  • Basic bookkeeping and accounting
  • Handle and oversee petty cash
  • Processing sales invoices, receipts and payments
  • Dealing with paperwork and filing
  • Supplier payments and expenses
  • First point of contact with Financial Officer
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant should have a minimum of five years
    demonstrable experience of Project Management
  • Hold a BA level or higher in Project
    Management/Business Studies or similar degree
  • Past experience of fundraising and grant writing
  • Significant experience of managing a small team
  • Profound knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Working knowledge of contemporary Uganda and East
    African visual art
  • Basic accountancy skills
  • Past experience of Marketing and Public Relations
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Ability to build networks and make corrections
  • Ability to work Independent
  • Proven leadership abilities
