About the Dispensers for Safe Water Program:
Each year, over 1.8 million
children under the age of five die from diarrhea, a leading cause of which is
unsafe drinking water. Dispensers for Safe Water (DSW) is an entrepreneurial
team tasked with scaling chlorine dispensers – a proven innovation that
dramatically expands access to water treatment at an extremely low cost. The
dispensers program is growing rapidly: we currently serve over 2 million in
Kenya and Uganda. Our goal is to provide 25 million people in multiple
countries with on-going access to safe water to reduce the disease burden by
2018.
Job Summary: The Field
Officers will be tasked to expand the programme with proven impact, potential
to improve the health of millions and save thousands of lives. They will play
an important role as the interface between DSW and communities in setting up
and running the chlorine dispenser system in targeted communities in Eastern Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Steer
    community sensitization and education meetings;
  • Lead
    meetings with community leaders and with other local officials;
  • Serve
    as the point of contact for promoters to answer questions and concerns
    about dispensers;
  • Responsible
    for field data administration for various activities through smart phone
    technology;
  • Report
    on a regular basis to the Area Coordinator;
  • Make
    calls to the community elected promoters to collate information about
    dispenser maintenance issues, chlorine refilling, and community issues
    regarding the dispenser use and water treatment.
  • Managing
    the chlorine supply chain.
  • Make
    calls to secure field teams appointments for community meetings/trainings,
    community leaders meetings and/or field visits among others as per the
    work plan.
  • Managing
    inventory of community dispenser promoter related items e.g. Promoter kits
    (T–Shirts, airtime lanyards, etc.), dispenser keys and labeling for Mbale
    and Sironko District.
  • Maintaining
    a database of promoter contacts and receiving promoter calls, feedback and
    issues raised.
  • Responsible
    for maintaining and updating the Issue Tracker.
  • Keep
    a database of chlorine usage.
  • Supporting
    the M&E and IS Associates on operational monitoring and evaluation
  • Design
    weekly and monthly activity work plans
  • Manage
    CSAs
  • Perform
    any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Area Coordinator.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate should preferably hold a Degree or Diploma in management,
    community work, project management or equivalent;
  • At
    least one to two years’ experience working with communities, social
    enterprises or NGOs;
  • Embraces
    team work;
  • Exhibit
    a passion to work and support in rural communities in Uganda;
  • High
    level of integrity and stewardship;
  • Self
    driven and highly motivated to deliver results within tight deadlines;
  • Possess
    the ability to communicate well within the organization and with the rural
    communities and local leaders;
  • Basic
    leadership skills in managing people, working with communities and teams;
  • Good
    computer skills and comfort to advance the skills in a dynamic IT field;
  • Highly
    proactive and ambitious to support innovation and change in a dynamic
    working environment;
  • Positive
    attitude to work and to develop in a fast paced work environment.
  • Motorcycle
    riding skills or willingness to learn and ride a motorcycle;
  • Knowledge
    Eastern Uganda – living or having lived there is an advantage as well as
    willing to relocate;
  • Good
    language skills in English both spoken and written;
  • Proficiency
    in speaking Lugisu and Luganda
