About RTI:
RTI International is recruiting for the USAID Uganda School Health and Reading Program, a five-year,
USAID program that aims to improve early grade reading outcomes for children in
primary grades and develop sustainable health education systems that support
national HIV/AIDS prevention efforts.
Job Summary: The Community and Social
Mobilization Officer will work with the districts in the designated areas to
create and engage with programme activities, mobilize, motivate and encourage
community leaders to influence their communities and help raise public
awareness on the importance of early grade reading and health education with
special focus on the learning in local languages in the relevant districts.
S/he will support the implementation of training activities of the program in
line with the stated goals and objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Develop
    and field-test social mobilization materials and provide feedback.
  • Offer support
    and liaise with the local Language Boards to help the schools in the use
    of local language.
  • Monitor
    social change and new social information relevant to the project.
  • Develop a
    Community Profile and obtain data necessary
  • Perform
    any other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief of Party.
 Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    Community and Social Mobilization Officer should possess a  master’s degree with three years’ experience
    in education, development studies, or related field; or Bachelors with six
    years’ experience in a relevant field.
  • Fluency
    in English and excellent writing skills and speaking fluency in at least
    one local language.
  • Evidence
    of relevant project experiences
  • Possess
    the ability to regularly and flexibly travel to districts and designated
    project Units.
  • The
    applicant must possess a high degree of motivation.
