About Us:
Nurture Africa (Formally A-Z Children’s
Charity Uganda) is a Non-Governmental Organization operating in Wakiso and
Mubende Districts. NA is committed to contribute towards the Health and
Development of the most Vulnerable Children in these areas of operation through
high quality education, health care, Children’s rights and Sustainable
livelihood programs enabling them to become positive influences in Ugandan
society. NA primarily targets HIV infected and affected orphans and Vulnerable
Children and works with their families holistically for sustainable change to
occur.
Job Summary: The Advocacy Coordinator will
oversee and coordinate advocacy services In the organization with an aim of
promoting justice and fair treatment for children and women.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Develop a
    clear organizational advocacy strategy.
  • Foresee possible
    advocacy developments and outcomes and prepare contingency plans and
    strategy adjustments.
  • Keenly track
    policy developments at the District and National levels with relevance to
    Children and Women’s rights
  • Provide
    technical assistance and training to assist staff, partner CSOs in
    organizing advocacy efforts related to Children and Women’s rights and
    practices.
  • Assist
    Nurture Africa in identifying strategic partners for advocacy related
    Projects.
  • Work in
    liaison with key stakeholders such as District officials, line Ministries,
    Media and CSOs with similar objectives to promote advocacy issues.
  • Organize
    public education and advocacy events such as round tables and news
    conferences
  • Represent
    in national and local events tailored for advocacy purposes such as
    meetings, conferences among others.
  • Develop
    IEC materials and ensure that they accurately portray and effectively
    promote policy and advocacy goals
  • Perform any
    other duties as assigned by the Country Director.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  
  • The
    Advocacy Officer should possess a good bachelor’s degree in the field       of social sciences
  • An
    additional post graduate training in advocacy or related field is added advantage
  • Excellent
    research, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to
    explain clearly and persuasively
  • A minimum
    of five years’ work experience in the field of Children and Gender issues
  • Strong
    interest in and ability to grasp policy and advocacy issues
  • Possess
    the ability to explain complex advocacy situations and goals clearly and
    accurately
