Job Summary: The National Distributor Manager role is critical to
the overall UBL’s short, medium and long term strategy in developing and
driving our trade and operational excellence within our RTM partners and
retailers. It is the high level contact between UBL, its Distributors and is
responsible for managing and developing relationships with existing
Distributors to achieve sales volumes and revenue targets. It is a field based
position requiring close liaison with the Sales Director, the Commercial back
office support teams like Operations and Customer Marketing as well as key
stakeholders in Supply and Finance. The job holder will take lead the
Distributor Management team, develop and sustain amazing relationships with our
key distributors. The National Distributor Manager will develop and drive our
RTM Strategy and joint strategy/plans with distributors. Direct performance and
P & L responsibility with a strong focus on working with distributors to
develop the capability within their organizations.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of the Spirits Game Plans
    and ensures brand positioning is clear, consistent & distinctive and
    delivers the projected financials
  • Develop and drive implementation of an
    advantaged route to market to unlock spirits distribution and share gain
    and drive the transformation of spirits in Uganda to match global
    standards
  • Design and manage initiatives and campaigns to
    deliver +/> 50% market share in line with Diageo Africa Spirits vision
  • Provide leadership support to the Spirits team
    by ensuring that the appropriate structures, systems, competencies and
    values are developed in order to meet and exceed the goals of the
    Marketing plan.
  • Monitor and control the Spirits budget to
    ensure attainment of objectives, within allocated spend and maximise
    return on investment
  • Manage the client/agency relationship and
    ensure the agency delivers the best possible output on the Spirits brands.
  • The Manager will form
    part of the UBL Extended Management team and plays a key role in the
    functional leadership agenda.
  • He / she will have line
    management responsibility for Brand Managers and Executives and will
    be required to coach and develop the team, conduct performance
    reviews, provide regular up-dates, develop brand plans, ad campaigns and
    game plans, etc.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The
    applicant should hold a good commercial Degree
  • At least
    seven to ten years’ cross functional experience, mostly commercial.
  • Prior
    route to market experience
  • Prior
    exposure across different channels and different levels of customer
    sophistication (e.g. Key Accounts Management and Field Sales)
  • Success
    in highly demanding sales organisations (FMCG) and in alcoholic beverages
  • Leadership
    of large teams operating in complex, multi-channelled settings
  • Senior
    Line management of large organisations, especially in field sales
  • Strong
    knowledge & demonstrated delivery in challenging trading environments;
    understanding of channel, pricing, negotiations and strategy development
  • Excellent
    negotiation and conflict resolution with high profile customers
