Assistant Secretary (Legal) – Nkumba University

Nkumba University is a private
chartered University (Legal Notice No. 3 of 2007). Its mission is to provide an
environment that enables the cultivation of Competence, Confidence, Creativity
and Character in the academic, professional and social interaction. The
University is strengthening its management and administrative systems to
enhance both policy initiation and implementation through recruitment of highly
qualified and committed individuals.
Key Duties &
Responsibilities:
  • Offer
    legal advice to the University on contractual, and other legal matters.
  • Provide
    legal advice to University employees on University related issues of a
    legal nature.
  • Draft
    various contracts and agreements for the University.
  • Represent
    the University at meetings which include negotiations.
  • Proactively
    participate in the development and implementation of policies governing
    the University in conformity with the laws of Uganda.
  • Ensure
    that governing policies and procedures relating to the procurement
    process, disciplinary, industrial relations including recruitment and exit
    procedures are properly followed.
  • Advise
    the University on all court related and arbitration proceedings that
    affect the University.
  • Advise
    the University on all legal commitment entered into by the University.
  • Regularly
    attend internal Committee meetings, Council and its Committees that
    require legal input.
  • Act
    as liaison between the University and the External Legal Advisors.
  • Follow
    up on legal issues, litigation and any other judicial processes.
  • To
    deal with the day to day legal administration work.
  • Perform
    any other obligation or duty as the University may determine.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The
    applicant should possess a Laws degree (LLB)
  • Additional
    Diploma in Legal Practice
  • Be
    an enrolled advocate of the High Court
  • Significant
    experience of at least two years of working with a reputable organization
  • Competency
    in accounts comprised systems especially Sage Pastel Evolution
  • Competency
    in computer and information technology
  • Possess
    high degree of integrity & leadership skills
  • Highly
    creativity & Innovativeness
  • Excellent
    communication & Interpersonal skills
Age: 28 – 45 years
