Consulting (Pty) Ltd is South African firm of Consulting Engineers and Project
Managers. It is a member of the South African Association of Consulting
Engineers (SAACE) and SABTACO (South African Black Technical Allied Careers
Organisation). ILISO Consulting (Pty) Ltd has a country office in Uganda and is
looking for a competent staff to fill the position of Manager – Structures at
this office. ILISO Consulting (Pty) Ltd head office is located in South Africa
at Centurion, Pretoria and has branch offices in Bethlehem, Bloemfontein, Cape
Town, Durban, East London, George, Port Elizabeth, Kimberley, and Botwana.
Job Summary: The Manager –
Structures will provide leadership and direction and coordinate all activities
of his department in accordance with the goals and objectives of the
organization.
Key Duties &
Responsibilities:
1.
Strategy Development, Planning and Reporting:
  • Take a proactive role in the formulation of
    future strategic objectives and bringing them to the Country Director for
    input, discussion and decision as to ratification.
  • Develop the business sector by preparing
    proposals (technical and financial), submit to the Client and follow-up,
    represent the company in tender negotiations, prepare technical and
    progress reports to the Client’s satisfaction.
  • Ensure that strong strategic and annual
    planning processes are in place to produce effective plans for approval by
    the Country Director.
  • Ensure that the scope of work documents and
    technical specifications relating to building works for bid documents and
    for works contracts are prepared.
  • Communicate the vision and ensure that line
    staff link their jobs with the company vision.
  • Evaluate proposals submitted from bidders
    relative to building works for works contracts and make recommendations
    for award of contracts with respect to building works aspects of
    proposals.
  • Make Timely and regular reporting to the
    Country Director.
2.
Operational Management:
  • Ensuring that the day-to-day operations of the
    organization are effectively and efficiently coordinated and implemented
    and conducted within the framework agreed to by the Country Director.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines such as
    mechanical, electrical and ICT engineering.
  • Review Contractor’s submittals for approval and
    respond to Request for Information (RFI’s).
  • Implement stringent project management
    processes to ensure the timely and cost effective development of the key
    projects undertaken.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships
    with the Country Director.
  • Develop and manage performance based contracts
    for the achievement of agreed objectives.
3.
Human Resource Management:
  • Effectively manage the line staff in according
    to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to
    current laws and regulations.
  • Build and maintain a high performance culture
    within the department through effective performance management,
    communication and coaching of staff. 
  • Provide clear leadership and promote and foster
    a team culture consistent with the organizations values.
  • Recommend remuneration changes for all
    supervisory personnel.
  • Control the use of consultants and services
    provided by others, and at the same time as developing these skills in
    employees where possible.
  • Resolve differences between line staff, and
    keep them working together in a common direction.
  • Attend regularly scheduled in-house meetings as
    well as meetings with clients and contractors.
4.
Public Relations and Community Social Responsibility:
  • Develop and maintain effective strategic
    relationships with key stakeholders including shareholders, funders,
    contract counterparties, customers and partners.
  • Develop a wide range of relationships and
    networks with the local, national and international engineering and
    construction industry to position the company as a well-known and credible
    organization throughout the industry.
  • Ensure the development of effective and
    innovative lobbying strategies to industry and government in order to
    promote the interests of investment in the organization activities
  • Maintain a professional standard in all
    communications and services to the stakeholders (staff, clients,
    etc.). 
  • Participate in conferences in partnership with
    the professional bodies in the country of operation, in the region and
    internally.
5.
Financial, Tax, and Risk Management:
  • Prepare yearly departmental budget for
    Management approval and prudently manage departmental resources within
    those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations
  • Perform structural engineering calculations,
    design review and stamping.
  • Perform engineer’s cost estimates for the
    civil/structural engineering discipline.
Qualifications, Skills
and Experience:
  • The applicant should possess a Masters’ degree
    in Civil engineering, Architecture or equivalent
  • Registration with Engineer’s Registration Board
    or Architect Registration Board or equivalent
  • At least eight year’s experience in a relevant
    field
  • Experience in preparing technical and financial
    proposals for consulting services
  • Experience in the design and construction
    supervision of buildings
  • Demonstrates passion and enthusiasm for an
