The German Red Cross (GRC)

and people affected by social or health related crises. The Red Cross / Red
Crescent Movement provides vulnerable people with assistance without

Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and
Universality. The German Red Cross assists in disaster response, rehabilitation
and capacity building projects internationally on appeals of their sister
organisations within the Movement.

Job Summary: The Project Manager in
the field of Climate Change Adaptation/Disaster Risk Reduction has a task of
administering the project for 6 years whose objective is to strengthen the
resilience of selected communities and the Red Cross Partner National Society
in the areas of DRR and CCA. The major project activities are therefore DRR,
Construction, Agriculture, Livelihood, Water & Sanitation, Capacity
Building and Networking on various levels.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive
    project management of a long-term integrated Climate Change
    Adaptation/Disaster Risk Reduction Project, including finance and
    administration
  • Guidance
    and follow up of project team on issues such as community-based DRR
    (CBDRR), Project Cycle Management, Vulnerability and Capacity Assessments,
    Community Action Planning, Climate Risk Assessments, and the various
    livelihood components
  • Liaise
    and maintain a close working relationship with different government
    departments, scientific institutions (e.g. meteorological offices and
    universities), NGOs and civil society on behalf of GRC, when appropriate,
    to ensure a smooth linkage between German RC, Uganda RC, and other
    organisations on DRR/CCA and livelihood related matters
  • Narrative
    and financial reporting, both for German RC and for the donor Federal
    Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience:
  • The
    applicant must have profound working experience in the field of Climate
    Change Adaptation, DRR, Livelihood, and Capacity Building among
    communities and partners (preferably in the region)
  • Prior
    experience in implementing and managing donor funded projects (BMZ
    experience will be an asset)
  • Strong
    project management skills, particularly PCM and participatory methods
  • Good
    interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively
    and build relationships at all levels, taking into account cultural and
    language differences
  • Excellent
    networking skills
  • Willingness
    to work in remote areas
  • Ability
    to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability
    and agreement to adhere to the Red Cross Red Crescent Fundamental
    Principles
  • Readiness
    to go on assignment without partner
  • Good
    Oral and written fluency in English, any additional language is of
    advantage
  • Ability
    to work effectively in multi cultural environments
  • Excellent
    physical and mental health with the ability to complete a thorough medical
    screening process
Job
Terms:
GRC offers you a
compensation package according to the collective employment agreement of the
GRC as well as an expatriation allowance during your mission. Depending on the
post specific situation we either provide you with an accommodation or a
personal allowance to cover your accommodation. In addition to a full insurance
package (health insurance for residence abroad, private accident insurance,
private liability insurance, luggage insurance) GRC is as well covering a home
flight withing a 12-month period of assignment and medical check ups before and
after your mission. Before your assignment you will benefit from a
comprehensive training package and receive briefings prior as well as during
and after your mission.
