About NWSC:
National
Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) a leading organisation in the Water
sector in Uganda with a Vision “To be a leading Water Utility in the World.”
NWSC is a utility parastatal 100% owned by The Government of Uganda. It was
established in 1972 under decree No: 34. The mandate of the Corporation as
defined in the National Water & Sewerage Corporation Statute of 1995,
Section 5 (1), is to operate and provide water and sewerage services in areas
entrusted to it, on a sound, commercial and viable basis. The NWSC operations
were initially in three towns of Kampala, Jinja, and Entebbe.
Job Summary: The legal officer
performs tasks related to the provision of legal advisory services to the NWSC
with a view of minimizing losses and enhancing efficient observance of legal
provisions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Acquire land titles for the Corporation.
  • Participate in representation of NWSC in Courts
    of Law.
  • Participate in preparing, Administering and
    managing Legal department budgets and reports.
  • Take legal actions against any client engaged
    in illegal activities.
  • Issue intention to sue notices to customers who
    refuse to grant access to employees on official duty when they visit their
    premises.
  • Liaise with Human Resources Manager in
    implementation of the workers’ compensation Act
  • Participate in drafting and negotiation of NWSC
    Contracts.
  • Carryout research on legal matters.
  • Represent the corporation in arbitration
    proceedings
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The applicant should hold a Bachelor’s Degree
    in Law, Diploma in Legal Practice.
  • At least four (4) years’ experience
    practicing law in a reputable Firm or in a similar position in a reputable
    organization.
  • Excellent communications and coaching skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and highly
    organized.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Ability to work for long hours with minimum
    supervision.
  • Self-drive and resilience
  • Able to interpret the law
